I wouldn't take it personally if you try to be friendly with an Asian person and they do not reciprocate. I'm Asian myself and there are some Asians that are cold to me as well.

Asians make nice quiet neighbors, who will leave you alone and not host loud parties at night. They don't like to socialize with neighbors much, but they're also less likely to turn into neighbor-from-hell types. I have a friend with neighbors-from-hell(TM) in Van Nuys who installed security cameras around their property and yells at you for parking in front of their home. The husband also liked to come out with a camcorder to record you if you're a stranger.

If you have to deal with narcissistic and sociopathic people at work all day, sometimes it's a luxury to be able to return to a quiet home for R&R.

I hope you don't take it personally. My parents are the same way (I'm Chinese). They hold no malice towards any neighbors-it's just that they like their privacy. It's also partially because of their anxiety with the English language.

<p>You're right about the piano practice. My Asian neighbor have a young son. He would play the piano until 8 PM then stops. </p>

<p>I must say, in the beginning, his one key stroke irriated the heck out of me. But as time goes on. He's gotten better and it's really relaxing now to hear him play in the evening. =)</p>

<p>Sorry I couldn't resist :-)</p>

Fob (Fresh Off the Boat) Asians

You were not born in America.

You speak your native language fluently and so do all your friends.

You do not have any non-Asian friends.

Your parents do not speak any English.

When you speak English, you like to make everything plural.

You get extremely good grades in school.

You cannot dance.

Your fashion sense comes from whatever country you're from and you incorporate nothing from American fashion into your wardrobe.

Your command of the English language is minimal and you don't care.

You like dim sum chicken feet.

You do not own a single CD, VCD, Video game, or DVD that isn't bootlegged.

All the lights in your house are fluorescent.

You dry your clothes outside your window.

<p>Here is one that I came up with: you know you're Asians (especially Chinese & Vietnamese) if you have at least a dozen pairs of flip flops/sandals by your door step.</p>

<p> </p>

<p>That was wicked fun! (the yellowbridge thing).</p>

<p>My favorite: you have shot another asian!</p>

For those of you who don't have friendly neighbors, maybe it's you, not them.

We don't socialize with the neighbors much. Our gringo neighbors are just too nosy and annoying. Every time my husband and I leave the house for a walk, we check to see if our neighbors are outside. They always stop us to "chat" about absolutely nothing or talk about their problems. We have nicknames for them like Dan and Roseanne to the right, and Homer and Marge to the left. Dan shoots the breeze by stalking his neighbors. Once, there was an older couple walking their dog; they purposely crossed the street to avoid him, after giving the obligatory waive. When they first moved in to the neighborhood, Homer said he hates 9 to 5 jobs. Once a day, he goes to the back patio to smoke pot, while his wife toils all day teaching and driving their kids to soccer practice. Roseanne, on the other hand collects "antiques", but they look more like piles of junk outside their garage. So for those of you who think your neighbors aren't friendly because of their race, you should re-evaluate yourselves.

Hmm.... I don't know where else to put this, but OC Flip, <a href="http://www.diylife.com/">this website</a> has your name all over it (assuming you haven't found it already).

<p>I like! <a href="http://www.diylife.com/2007/08/17/disinfecting-your-dishwashing-sponge/">This</a> is a good idea. I'm convinced that most household food poisoning comes from sponges.</p>

<p>I also saw "<a href="http://www.diylife.com/2007/08/17/mind-blowing-origami-make-a-baby-hedgehog/">mind-blowing origami</a>" and thought it was something else at first glance. </p>
