Interview day for possible work promotion.  :o

If I get it:

mo' money
better schedule (get to pick my kid up!)
open more doors for upward movement

If I don't get it:

health (less stress and more time to workout)
satisfied with current place in career

Woke up at 5am, one of those straight to 'wide awake' mornings, stomach rumbling, hate this feeling.  I have a good position in my company, many has stated it is the 'best' spot for our profession.  In fact I already have people asking me about my old position if I get promoted.  Seems like nobody wants the promoted spot.  Hope I'm not making the wrong choice.

Nervous

Good luck man. Just use the lessons learned from the movie I office space and you will be fine :-)

Good luck!  I'm sure you'll get it - I mean "refi king" is on your resume right?  Then decide from there. Maybe over a nice romantic takeout meal from Ren again.

Funny I was having an Office Space moment with my wifi printer this morning.  Wanna meet up behind the North Hangar later? :)

Thanks for all the well wishes, Ren is on for sure tonight!  Gonna try the Haka stir fry, one of my favorite dishes of all time

So is the new position like a management one? Where you get to tell people what boxes to put the Amazon stickers on?

You didn't mention it in your first post but that seems like the difference and why you would get mo' money.

For me, although I enjoy being a grunt, there are perks with being in management.

Good luck... and make sure my packages get to me on time.

Hey ps9,

Good luck with the interview.  Even tho we've never met in person, you're a regular here and I've always enjoyed reading your posts.

Some ppl abhor change while others welcome it.  But change is inevitable and it's best to be in front of it vs reactionary.  Increased responsibility is usually not worth the increase in compensation, at least in my field.  But, if it means possible upward mobility in the future...hard decision indeed.

When I first started my job, I worked 100hrs a week including lots of weekends and holidays.  I was newly married, new mortgage and had no kids, so needed the money, so didn't mind working so hard.  But, and you know this of course, everything changes with kids.  Lifestyle and spending time with the family becomes so much more of a priority.

I do think the possible promotion is a good problem to have.  Means you must be doing something right at your job.  Good luck.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown.  If the new position is going to be more stressful, I would assess whether or not you're happy where you are now.  Being where I am now, I would gladly take less money to reduce stress.

Yup, if I get it, more stickers to deal with.  Plus I get to hear clients complain about said stickers on things, deal with work drama (this alone makes me want to look for a solo career), and deal with more upper management.  I might have to take work home too.  Joy.  Hope you enjoy your Amazon packages.  I'll make sure they put 20 layers of tape on it so you'll ENJOY opening them :)

Thank you for the insightful post, definitely something I need to re-read at a later time.  Upward mobility means access to better jobs/flexibility but also bigger headaches.  It's my old tortoise/hare debate.  I have 30-40 years to go, burn out now?  Or slow and steady till I retire?  But will I regret the road not traveled?  I think I will NEED to know.

I totally agree, but I would rather take the sacrifice, make more money, have wife stay home/part time, have another child, etc.  I can take a beating, and provide more for my family.  Maybe when I'm older I'll think differently, but for now, I'll take the challenge.  With the new job, I can probably solo qualify for my 5/1 ARM refi's.

Good luck on the interview.  So if you get the new job so that mean you'll be buying a Trevi Plan 3 home?  ;)

My heart is still with La Vita 4.  Apartment views or bust!

Man, I get expensive when I'm stressed.. Got a new laptop today, 4 LED bulbs, another foscam ip camera, a blu-ray, 2 ipad mini cases....

From my experience, anxiety like you described, before making an important decision almost always became the best decisions I've made.

Mo' money = mo' stress.  Stress is how we perceive and react to it.  You can adapt with stress management.  But you can't make mo' money by doing positive affirmations everyday.  ;D

Mo' money means you can potentially retire earlier or save that $ towards a torrentuous rainy day.  If you continue to spend like you do with your current pay.  It's a shame that in our culture and generation, we easily and thoughtlessly spend our hard earned $.  I'm an admitted hypocrite, but I strive to be more considerate with our $.

About less time with family, that just means you have to be more efficient and manage your time to accommodate.  View it as quality not quantity.

It's a blessing that you have this opportunity that many do not.  Go get em'!  Best of luck to you!  Will be sending positive vibes your way.
