Nobody is filing in Florida yet. The budget has been cut and the cuts
farmed out to various agencies, schools etc, to choose where to cut.
Cuts are announced. The subjects of the cuts then stage a major whinefest.
Then the people who are the top/hearings, say ok, we won't cut you. But they
have to cut somewhere.
I think some of the people are making bad choices on purpose. As
a method of squeezing out more money from somewhere else.
A university, FIU, was cutting some majors. . . including ENGINEERING.
At a time the state is going looking for high tech. Ok, let's hit home here.
My son was a psych major. But there are too many psych majors. So,
why not cut psych?
Meanwhile, there's this building planned for bldg & zoning in Hialeah. This
bldg looked like it was needed during the bubble and quite clearly isn't
needed now. Ok, so why not cut the unnecessary bldg? Someone's ox
is getting gored. But then the prospective engineers are being screwed too.
These cuts are being divvied up just on the basis of who has the most
power and who is the best whiner. No logical consideration is being applied
at all, as far as I can see.
This is why politics is so loathesome.
