Changing Grout Color

I'm starting to think that the grout color I chose for the exterior entry travertine steps is slightly darker than I would have wanted. Is there a way to apply a lighter grout on top of the existing grout or will this have cracking issues later down the road? I don't want to have to tear out all the existing grout.

There's also the idea of using a grout lightener. Just not sure if any of you here have had success with this method. It also worries me that I won't be able to see what it's going to look like before I apply the lightener.

Currently, they're a dark beige, but I'm hoping to make a light beige.

You could just buy some grout and try it on a small section of your floor to see if it works...watch youtube videos.
