Cash in Pocket

I rarely ever carry cash. I call it "former waitress syndrome." I was accustomed to having cash on hand for too many years and I use my debit cards way too much nowadays (so much so that I'm paranoid about getting caught in one of those scams where they steal your info).
 
I would imagine people would carry more cash these days, especially for holiday spending... there is something about plunking down cold hard cash that you just feel deep down inside that you paid for something. I try to withdraw $40 when I'm dry; the wife usually raids my wallet for a $20 when she's out of cash... somehow, I still feel silly charging a $3 Starbucks drink, so that is usually the only thing I still pay cash for... and yeah... we try to make an ATM run, whenever leaving the OC... especially to the S.G. Valley for food & drinks... but of course we haven't gone out much this year...

Breaking myself of the cash habit was tough but now all I carry is plastic unless we are going into an amusement park or fair-type environment.
 
I carry less than $80 most all the time...sometimes I don't have any cash and just use my Debit or CCs. The only time I'll have more is when I go play poker....I'll usually have about $300-$500.
 
I'm also curious as to how long the cash lasts folks. In my younger, carefree days, I could easily move through $50 between weekends. Lunches everyday, occasional coffee runs, etc. Now that I'm settled down, hardly go out, pack a coffee and a lunch every day, etc, I marvel at how long $40 in my wallet can last. Rarely less than a month and seemingly 2-3 months on average. I rely on my debit card for the weekend fast food diet lapses and grocery shopping.
 
It's always interesting to see people who carry a money clip, with a huge wade of cash... they like to break out the wade in various social situations; it always get instant attention... girls turn their head, guys always take a glance at the money... we also always make an ATM run when eating out in groups... nothing is more embarrassing to a table when three or four parties are trying to break a $300 bill with credit cards... it always take forever, and the waiter gets it wrong sometimes...

i normally carry between $100 and $200 - you never know when you might need some quick access to cash. I normally have $10-$20 in the car as well as backup.
 
I always have about $ 300 on me. Its so much easier than using cards for every little thing.

I go crazy when I watch somebody charge a $ 1.85 cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Or buy $ 20.00 worth of Groceries with a card and get $ 40.00 cash back.

About once a week I will go to the bank and grab 3 or 4 hundred dollar bills.

Or if I have a slug of cash from a Vegas trip. Just bleed it off slowly.

(Leaving next Thursday for Thanksgiving in Vegas with GF)

Since I do take a few customers out on occasion. Normally I will use the company credit card.

But I will use cash on most all other occasions. Especially for tips. Servers and bartenders love cash.

Part of having adult children too. "Dad can you float me $ 100.00 till payday ?"

I would rather give him some cash than have him live off his credit cards.

Damn kid has a higher credit score than me. Because I always have a Zero Balance on my cards and I have zero debt.

Screw keeping track of all those damn transactions. I call it "Petty Cash Withdrawl"
 
I almost always use the debit card. I hate having coins and cash in my pockets or wallet. It's a sanitary thing with me. Seriously, whenever I see my wife hold cash/coins in hands, I cringe.

Last week, she grabbed some coins off our kitchen counter and I said to her, "Honey, please put them into the plastic sandwich bag." =)

Thankfully, you don't have to follow me around for a week! I'd drive you nuts. ;-P If I have cash, it's usually because I get cash back at the grocery store.
 
And I go crazy when the old lady in front of me takes 5 minutes to write a check for groceries and then another 5 minutes to get someone to take the check. Sorry if that's mean, I understand that it's hard to give up these things, but PLEASE, swipe the card once and you'll see that it's just not that hard!

You forget. The old lady then takes another 10 minutes to balance her checkbook all the while holding up the express line. Haha!

I wanted so much to take her checkbook and rip it apart.
