Car crashes through Barranca overpass onto 5 Freeway in Irvine, killing driver

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often at this exit, the carpool exit from the I-5 South to Barranca.

Exactly! Every time I pass by or enter I think about how dangerous it is. Sad story.

Why is it dangerous?  It's an off ramp that goes up to a traffic signal like 90% of the off ramps in orange county.

It's a carpool exit/entrance that exits/enters the center of the freeway and those are rare around here. That's why it's dangerous, it's different. Haven't you seen how people slam on their brakes when there is a CURVE in the freeway? Change things up and some drivers get confused = danger for the rest of us and/or themselves.
