Regardless of Panda's opinion, your advice was pretty good. Don't be too quick to settle down and merge assets. And let me state the obvious, and without knowing your exact situation, by saying it's not entirely too late for you, either.

Has anyone heard of the Book: Rich Dad, Poor Dad? It's a good read. I also saw another book recommended highly on MSN I think:

Prenups, that's like preparing for a divorce. When Panda and Ms. Panda got married we vowed that no matter how bad it gets, divorce is not an option, unless one of us cheats with another person, and that is not going to happen. Advice to all the single brothers on the IHB, including Ten: Marry a pretty wife so that your are eyes are not wondering for an affair Divorce rates are almost 50% nationally, I am sure the percentage in OC is a lot more. Let's just say that Panda's role model is Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, not Donald Trump. I am not the expert on this topic, but my wife and I have joint accounts on all the assets we own. I was 28 and my wife was 22 when we got married, so I came into the marriage with a lot more assets than she did. What about other couples on the IHB? Do you and your wife have separate accounts or have everything joint? This is a touchy topic, everybody does things differently. I don't think there is any right or wrong answer. Whatever works best for the couple.
Funny comment from Ten, that 24 never kissed a girl. Looking back, at my high school and college years, all the popular playboys (10 - 20+ girl friends) I knew are still single today in their 30s (and desperate) and the guys who didn't date much end up getting married in their mid to late 20s with "extremely high quality" women. This is just something that Panda has observed over the years.
There are many paths to happiness, create and follow your own.

I don’t have a problem with anything he said or him being idealistic.
Everyone’s path is different.

i think people would be better off doing the opposite. hit the cardio because you love it, not because you think it makes your striped clubbing shirt look good for the ladies. there are doofs at the gym every day with that sort of attitude and it usually translates into this:

First I would like to disclose: I think like a trader and not an investor. I do not bring emotion to the trade. I look at the numbers and the technicals, and I go long when they say so, and short when they say so. I don't care if the company does good things or bad things, puts people in homes or kicks them out, makes a phone for a faster network or a phone that most companies use, as long as I think I can make money from the trade, then I will make that trade.
Forgive me for not reading up on how they are structuring it, but from what you say, here is what I know and have questions about...
What debt does this entail? Their bonds? Their commercial paper? The money BofA has lent them? Because their MBS pools are not debt, they are assets and those assets are performing like a$$. Either way you look at it, BofA will have to put those losses on their books regardless of whether or not they are a subsidiary. How much is BofA going to lose on their mortgage assets? BofA has lent them plenty of money, are they going to write that off?
I have not seen that, and BofA has always been a leader in contributing to low income communities. I think that is awesome (emotion), and I am sure they will do even more with taking on the vast amount of REOs from Countrywide. However, those tax write offs will only go so far, and it is all about the profits and losses (trader).
As for buying BAC as an investor for a long term hold, then you could come out ahead. It will be a very bumpy ride, but if they move quickly, and not be stubborn on the pricing of Countrywide's short sales and REOs, then they could really make some serious profit on this deal. They snooze or use their loss mit. managers, then it could seriously hurt them. As an investor, you can't let the emotion you have from price fluctuations change the emotion of your original reason to buy the stock. Just don't let that original emotion take over when the numbers and facts tell you to get out.

Panda, the vast majority of couples vow to never get divorced "no matter what". We were so naive that when we were planning the wedding, I was insistent the wedding date be January 1st so 1) We'd always have fireworks on our anniversary no matter what city in the world we chose to celebrate and 2) If we ever had a bad year of marriage, we could look towards the future at the stroke of midnight of a new calendar year. Still no matter how committed you are in your heart, you never really know how committed your significant other truly is. In fact, the more I made her #1 in my life, the faster she ran away. I wish your marriage the best and hopefully you'll stay on the other side of that 50% divorce rate than I am.

The follow up to anyone who's curious: No, we did not have children nor a house. Our only sizable asset is our investment accounts as we lived very frugally. My wife never did file for divorce but eventually I ended up doing so towards the end of May--out of pure exhaustion. Still I continue to kowtow to her until the judgment as we proceed through an uncontested divorce. My hopes is that she doesn't become too squirrley and take me to the cleaners (50/50). Maybe the soon-to-be-ex actually does have a conscience.
To this day I regret not having been man enough to kick her butt to the curb the very first time she stamped her little foot in order to get her way. This is one mistake I'll never make again.

You are absolutely correct, your standards are just SO MUCH higher than mine, as Panda played with his Star Wars and Transformers action figures, Nintendo Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda, and Dungeons and Dragons all day, while all my other friends were dating.

Come on Ten, aren't you being a bit harsh on Panda? I didn't perceive that he was being judgemental in his post. Panda is very idealistic and while he may seem naive to many of us, I find his purity refreshing. The man loves his wife and I believe that he is living in the bliss that he expresses when he speaks of his marriage. I doubt that he had lower standards for who he wanted to marry. Yes, what he finds attractive in his mate may differ greatly from what you would, bu he very likely had high standards for his wife. He happened to meet her sooner in life rather than later.
