you'll need the account number from Fidelity, which will be the same at Tiaa-Cref...  looking over the portfolios... my daughter is 2 and will need this when she's 17/18.. so that leaves about 15 years for investment.. should I go aggressive or index fund?

Putting everything into a stock index fund would be the easy way to go.  What are you considering that would be more aggressive than that?

I kid, I kid, they have funds more heavily managed then a index, probably cost more to, have to do more research.

Over the long haul, actively managed under performs indexed, unless you have a superstar manager which I'm guessing Tiaa-Cref doesn't have.  Even superstar managers tend to lose their touch sooner or later.

Bill Miller disagrees.

He is definitely the poster child, but Bill Gross and a couple of high profile hedge funds also come to mind.  The "new normal" has ruined the records of many previously "untouchable" managers.
