Buying a new car: what will the tax, title, license, registration cost?

ISM is now the proud owner of this shiny, happy new Venza:

I'm very happy to report things went quite well at Tustin Toyota. I really couldn't be any happier. This is a new model introduced this year and from the research that I did, it is quite common for new vehicles to sell at or above sticker price when they are first introduced. (I know, I know, my mom always told me I had expensive taste. I could've gotten a real smokin' deal way below invoice on a Camry, but the Camry just doesn't turn me on the way the Venza does. Actually, the Venza is built on a Camry base; just souped up and on steriods). So I ended up about $500 over invoice, and $4,000 below MSRP. And boy HOWDY, did I do good on my trade-in! What in the HELL is up with CarMax on Bake? The Toyota guys gave me exactly TWICE what the CarMax folks offered me, and 1/3 more than another Toyota dealership offered. So I probably could've tried to haggle for another couple hundred off the new car to get closer to invoice, but I think this was the better way to do it.

So please don't tell me I got screwed and burst my bubble, okay? I got a car I love, for a lot less than the other car that I REALLY love (a $45,000 2010 Volvo XC60 that hasn't even been released for sale yet), and I was treated well and, I believe, fairly. So I spent way less than I could have and still ended up with a car that makes me tingle. I got all the bells and whistles: nav, premium audio, leather package, automatic rear door, fancy headlights, DVD system for the munchkin, and it will wipe my son's tush. (kidding!)

sound like you did all the "homework" and got a great deal!

I was at a toyota dealer this past monday. While waiting for my car to get serviced, I went to the showroom to look for this car since you mentioned that you are buying one. I was impressed! I sat in one with leather seats, etc ( no nav and RE), and it has a very impressive interior. I would image the fully loaded one will look even better.

congrads!

Thanks for posting CalGal. If you could please PM the salesperson you dealt with at Toyota. I am going to be shopping for a new Camry for my mom this summer probably. She does not like salespeople so shes assigning me to deal with them. Hopefully that person will still be there by then!

And yeah, CarMax usually lowballs you, but its better to have that than nothing at all in case the dealer tries to lowball you even more. So did you never tell the dealer that you even went to carmax? Never even mentioned the price? I think I slipped on that when I bought my car and therefore the dealer offered me the exact same price and I bet they would have given more.

24 - you talkin' to me? I went through the internet department at Tustin Toyota. I don't see why I can't post his name here - I only have good things to say and I'm sure he'd appreciate the business. His name is Jose Hidalgo. Just make sure you contact him via the web first. As part of my research in buying this car, I discovered that dealerships seem to treat internet customers better than people who just show up. There's no "shark attack" when you arrive - just tell them you have an appointment with your internet contact and they back right off.

I brought the CarMax written offer with me but I had made no mention of it in any of my dealership emails and phone calls. Definitely a good choice - I'm sure I wouldn't have gotten near the offer I got if they'd known how low CarMax was!

How about an IHB Vegas trip, ISM drives!

And be sure to wave at me if you see me tooling around town - I'm the only red Venza for hundreds of miles around!

Yeah sorry ISM. It was to you. I posted here right after quoting CalGal in babyseals engagement announcement. Sorry about that.

Thanks for the PM though, hopefully hes still there in August!
