It's certainly part of the problem, but I wouldn't characterize it as "living in the past". I think it's more accurately described as "left behind while the rest of the world continued to evolve." Its true on economic oppourtunity, health care, income disparities, racial stereotypes, class issues, water quality.
Obama was roundly critisized for his "guns and religion comments".

The problem is............Obama isn't wrong. I spent most of my life living in small town America. None of the Republicans I know in large cities can come to the realization that this is reality becuase they haven't spent any time in small towns getting to know these people.
They (folks in more rural areas) do so because they have nothing left to cling to. The tougher the enviroment, the more hardened and conservative people become, and by extension, thier beliefs on religon, politics, economics, guns, and everything else in their lives. The sense of community is much more tight knit, but so is the socal contract that makes welfare a badge of shame in these same communities.
I don't claim to know everything, but I know my neighbors back home. They make Winex look like a Communist.

Let me start with that I am still undecided as to which party to vote for at this time.
OK, that is out of the way....
The way I see it is that Alaska is a better place without him, if they had an sworn Officer using his Taser on his own kid regardless who the Governor is. You know that if this was some officer that you had read about in the local news you would want him fired and not running around everyday with a gun.
I just do not understand the perverse pleasure everyone enjoys on bad news about the candidate's running. Personally I think Obama is getting a free pass from the press about his past and if this keeps up it may swing my vote against the Democratic party.

I may sound naive, but I don't really think that this is a story Obama really needed right now, he's doing just fine. The Republicans are already going crazy blaming him for this report. What is interesting are the reports from other Alaskans from several weeks ago that abusing power is par for the course for Palin. Her efforts to ban books
comes to mind, although I realize that these reports are only anecdotal. Everyone knows that she comes from the same conservative "born again" Republicans who intend to be the moral police for the country, I'm sure Jerry Falwell would be proud of her. Does anyone else think that McCain really doesn't like her either?

The thing that angers me about the McCain/Palin campaign is that during their rallys they really don't do much besides trying to make Obama look bad.
Given our economy, the Iraq war, Iran, Pakistan, Korea, etc etc, where's the accountability? They spend more time pointing the finger instead of actually telling americans what they will do to help the sagging country.
Their intention during the rallys is to create hatred toward the Obama/Biden campaign, and what they are creating is an angry mob.
It does somewhat shock me that there are still ignorant enough people in this country to link Obama to terrorism just because of his middle name. Or people ignorant enough to say he is a Muslim because of his middle name, or that electing a person of color will ruin our country. c'mon people its 2008, not 1960.
As the world rapidly advances, parts of this country are still living in the past, ie 40 years ago. Maybe that's why we are at where we're at?

I am going to miss watching Tina Fey on SNL. Its been really entertaining.

For the next 2 weeks McCain and Palin will continue their sleezy dishonorable campaign. In the final week he will attempt to run a decent campaign, however it will be too little too late. His legacy as a moderate will be forever tarnished, and instead he will be remembered as the most sleezy unethical politicians in American history.
