Aspartame (sugar substitute)

This is something I recently found out and thought it very interesting and wanted to share it here:

"Formaldehyde, aspartame, and migraines: a possible connection

Aspartame is a widely used artificial sweetener that has been linked to pediatric and adolescent migraines. Upon ingestion, aspartame is broken, converted, and oxidized into formaldehyde in various tissues. We present the first case series of aspartame-associated migraines related to clinically relevant positive reactions to formaldehyde on patch testing." From the National Library of Medicine (PubMed) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18627677/

Here's a partial list of foods/drinks that contain aspartame. Most are zero calorie drinks and chewing gum. Some surprising items include pre-prepared sushi. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/07/13/aspartame-foods-list/

I drink Coke Zero regularly...usually once a day. It's not good for you. That said, you need to drink something like 15-20 cans of diet soda each day to reach toxic levels of aspartame.

Isn't aspartame the one that has been linked to cancer by WHO in the latest media?

I prefer stevia as a sugar substitute but there is probably something bad with that too.

Yes, it's in Group 2B - the same group coffee and fermented vegetables (Kimchi) are in.

South Korea has one of the highest rates of stomach cancer in the world. Some have said it has to do with the country's love for soups (served and consumed boiling hot), kimchi, and overconsumption of alcohol.
