Asiana crash

So, who thinks it's anything other than pilot error here?

I think this is similar to the Korean Airlines(?) crash a while back where the captain made an obvious error and the junior pilot(s) realized it but couldn't speak up in time as to not embarrass/dishonor the senior pilot.  Just the way it is with Korean/Japanese, etc. work relationships. Does not work well in these situations.

The captain was still getting used to the Boeing 777 so it probably contributed to the error and the co-pilot although had plenty of 777 experience was on his first flight as an instructor.  Not a good match.

Outliers?

Did you know the COO of Facebook was going to take this flight?

?My family, colleagues Debbie Frost, Charlton Gholson and Kelly Hoffman and I were originally going to take the Asiana flight that just crash-landed. We switched to United so we could use miles for my family?s tickets. Our flight was scheduled to come in at the same time, but we were early and landed about 20 minutes before the crash.?

Personally, good for him, his family and his colleagues but I thought the post timing (and content) was a little insensitive. To me (and probably others), it came across as "Whew, I'm glad it was them and not us" (although I'm sure that is not what was intended) when the suffering was still ongoing.  And, the networks picked this up a lot.  The COO of Facebooks should know the power of his own posts.
