Any proud IHB parents?

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I am sure Simpson kids are special :-) Just don't push them to get a perfect GPA, perfect SAT score, or send them to piano and martial arts. That way their resume will stand out ;-) I suggest Neurotic parents guide for college admissions.. I am teaching the kid to brew my coffee to match my mood, and a smoothie to match my clothes already.

A few years ago an Indian girl called Kavya Vishwanathan wrote a book about how she focused on preparing a perfect resume for Ivy league admission but got denied because she didn't 'get a life'. The book ran into controversies because she had copied a few pages from a leading author's book, but it was a fun read.

Ivy League or bust for the Simpson kids!

:O What! That means I can be proud of the children if they go to UCI also? I can take calls from relatives after the Ivy league denies admission? :-)

Trace- it was supposed to sarcastic :-) Just trying to see if all that tiger parenting led to great results.. I will be happy whatever the kids choose to do as long as  they attend college. Not attending college isn't an option for them though. Ivy, IVC, PCC.. doesn't matter.

Ivy League admission is not a prerequisite for someone to be proud of their children. :)
You must not be Hispanic... oh wait... I think that's Asian. Or maybe Caucasian.

But I agree... if my kids can fend for themselves when they grow up... that's good enough for me. Would be nice if they made billions so they can put me in a luxury old folks home... but not necessary.

Ivies are old and musty anyways... I don't see the big deal about these old colonial colleges.

That's why SoCal has no Ivy... because we're too cool for old school!

Yes Cal Tech does not have TAG (transfer agreement guarantee) for Pasadena City College students. Cal Tech rarely accept transferring students however over the last 3 decades 2 or 3 students annually from PCC consistently succeeded getting transferred to Cal Tech. I know this well coming from Harvey Mudd College a sibling rivalry school to Cal Tech.

Here is an insider quote:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/4339375-post7.html

Cal Tech being so close to PCC over the years its faculty influence and understood PCC's core science curriculum. PCC faculty and Cal Tech Faculty over the years have developed rapport that a letter of recommendation from several notable PCC professors could out weigh applicants from other ABC community colleges or 4 year colleges.

Pasadena City College's top honor students have guarantee admission to neighboring Cal Tech.  IVC's top students have guarantee house down payments from neighboring parents or in laws.

Haha! Can you claim reverse discrimination at IVC and PCC?

that isnt true.  caltech does not have any reserved spots at PCC and simply has a pathway for PCC students to attend caltech much like UCLA and Santa Monica CC.  it doesnt mean jack as the students still have to meet the admission requirements and compete with everyone else trying to transfer from other CCs

dont get your point...a couple students a year *might* go to caltech form pcc....how is that different from a handful of kids from SMC going to ucla?  yes caltech is a great school but couple kids is insignificant.  my niece went to uni high and then went to MIT and now is in med school at stanford but i cant say that uni high has a pathway to MIT/Stanford...

I bought in Irvine for another reason, so my kids can see how boring, stale and overpriced this city is and hope they avoid going to UCI  :P

Ivy League conjures an image of an old college campus with quads, courtyards, building with a singuler theme, vines growing on walls with strong axial relationship between circulation and restful spaces. West coast universities that come close to this environment with highly selective admission standards are Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Claremont Colleges, and Occidental.

I think you are throwing a curve ball here. I am not saying Cal Tech is any better than the other great schools you are referring to. I am only saying that there is a portal in which PCC has a preferential status over other schools for its transferring students to one of the best technical instututions in this country. Like usual you just don't get it. A couple of kids for an entire school that has less than 965 students is a big deal vs a handful from SMC that got into UCLA with 45,000 students.

Or... you're going to be a helicopter dad and WANT your kids to go to UCI so you can keep your eye on them. :)

What is the point of living Irvine for the top schools and not becoming a tiger parent.

Ivy League or bust for the Simpson kids!

That?s a great question.
For us, it comes down to being more than what we want or our life?s plan for them.
We try and use a partnering/team approach to make sure it?s what they want.

That is exactly the point. Few kids want to grow up in Irvine.

It is the parents dream and not the children. Many children grow up and never to return or a few who stayed  because they never learned the skills to cope with other cities.

Or you grow up in OC, move out and experience the world and then come back to OC when you want to raise your kids.

Also

<--- Fully expects kids to become Legacy students

Wow you really have good ears. The whole point of suffering with tiny yards and compromised privacy is all for the good schools and training the cubs to be vicious and competitive. I will post more later. Gotta go to Sylvan, Oxford and Math Monkey now. Can't let my children fall behind. All my sacrifices would be a terrible waste if my cubs turn into anteaters.

The point?? Our kids understand that watching TV is a privilege, not a right. Our kids think their life isn't stressful at all, because they are enrolled in only two activities. They actually think they have a cool parent if they are not enrolled in private academic coaching :-)
Show them the tigers, no need to push them into a cage with them.

Personally I am enjoying my low stress parenting job in Irvine. When I said 'no sleepovers starting middle school' I didn't hear a why.
