His tone was okay but his control and breathiness was very amateur... plus his accent got him at times. And Jimmy is probably right, look at all the KPop that shows up on TI (maybe PatStar and Jumpcut are ahead of their time).

While Mantasia is definitely talented, I doubt he'll get enough votes to win. I think the demographic for Idol skews middle America and tween/teen girls... that's why the last 4 winners have been young guys from middle America. I think the show tried to stack the cards this season with multiple blondes (see what happened when Erika went brunette :) ) and ethnic males.

Mrs. IHO likes the Kidney Stone with two first names, Phillip Phillips and rough voiced Elise. I'm not sure who lI ike but they all seem pretty good at this point. Usually you can easily guess who's going next... but talent-wise... they are all up there (there were multiple standing judge o's last week).

I think Hollie is going to go next... strong voice but she's still too young and nervous.
 
I agree with you about Hollie. She and Skylar are on the chopping block next. Usually when a singer has an accent, it is undetectable when they sing. The same hasn't been true for Heejun which I did find very surprising. He's one of the very few with quite an obvious accent when singing, although at times Hollie's Liverpool accent comes through, too.

I just do not "get" Phillip. I can't see why he even made it to Hollywood. He's certainly not terrible but nothing to write home about, imo. Not special.

I love Elise! She was great last week doing Whole Lotta Love. DeAndre doing Master Blaster a week or two ago was his best, imo. Joshua's "I Wish" was amazing.

In the end, though, like you say - it's the teenage girl votes that count rather than, say, the middle-aged moms such as the one writing this.

Back to Heejun. Okay, seriously. I don't get how the voters didn't think his last performance wasn't better than some of the weakest links. He made a big effort. Ironically, I thought the week he got voted off was his strongest performance to date. He reminds me of a Korean Josh Groban.

11 hours ago Mr. SoCal and I were watching A.I. when he said DeAndre sounds "like a monkey in a blender" when he sings falsetto. I was holding a cup of hot chocolate and laughed so hard I nearly scalded myself half to death. I'm still laughing today. I think he's ruined DeAndre for me because every time I hear him now, that's all I can think about. Thanks a lot, Mister!

I have the flu so I didn't get to stay awake for the rest of the episode. I turned it off before Joshua performed. I look forward to seeing who goes home tonight. Any guesses??
 
Well... looks like Mr. SC was prophetic... just watched our DVRed AI and it looks like there will be no more blender monkey.
 
I actually think everyone left is good.

The bottom 3 makes sense considering the favorite Idol type for the last 4 years as been caucasian young male.

I don't think Jessica is bland... just a bit over the top on her stylings sometimes.

I wonder if the judges would have used the save it was Elise or Mantasia? They were a bit critical of Josh the previous night.
 
It's getting harder to guess who is going home... I'm thinking Holly or Elise.

This season is one of the better ones talent wise.

Every time I watch Phillip, I can't figure out why he made it to Hollywood! He's a cut-rate version of Dave Matthews. And I LOVE D.M. but not this guy.
 
I haven't watched last night's episode yet. It's sitting on my DVR waiting. Did Elise bomb last night?? Tell me but don't spoil it too much.  :)
Re: Jessica. I'm shocked how good she is for being a mere 16 years of age.

Even though I didn't see last night, I don't see how the finale can NOT include Joshua. He is dripping with talent!
 
While I recognize Mantasia's talent (and he's grown more on me each week)... I think middle America dominates the vote and he has been in the bottom 3, so his chances to be in the finale are slim.

Elise was better than she has been... but everyone else was just really good (except maybe Holly). They each had one good song out of two... but some of them had two good songs.
 
Yeah but when someone like Mantasia lands a spot in the bottom-3 I have to wonder if the reason is because voters assume that contest is such a shoe-in that there is no reason for them to spend time casting their vote for that person. Years ago when I used to vote, I would be guilty of not voting my favorite for that reason - just assumed everyone else will cover it. He doesn't quite have the "vacation home", as Jimmy calls it, in the bottom-3 that Elise has. And why would Mantasia not be as appealing to middle-America as the others? He's not even close to being out-of-the-box as an entertainer. There's nothing really risqu? about him.
 
Since the last post, I can barely bring myself to finish watching the season. Gosh, I'm so tired of it. I don't like how they drag out the results show for 2 hours. Fill it with a bunch of cheesy group song & dance numbers. I do fast-forward through the recording but it's just so uninspiring at this point, especially once they get rid of some favorites.

Btw, there seems to be no benefit to winning. I don't know if you guys remember but when the show first started, the first-place prize was a $1M recording contract. Now many of them get contracts, some get new Fords, and there's no point to seeing the show through to the end. I only try because I feel "obligated", if that makes sense, since I started. I feel like since I started, I have to finish. LOL.
 
I think it will be Phillip Phillips because of my aforementioned middle America theory... and a bunch of pre-teen girls voting.

See how Mantasia didn't make the finals?
