I know that the 3bd/2.5ba plan in Turtle Rock Canyon has a 2 car side by side garage with direct access.
 
I had no idea that not many people liked Turtle Rock. I moved to OC the end of '95 and had to find a place to live. The office was in Tustin on Irvine Blvd, so I explored a lot of Irvine and the area that I really liked was TR. I would have moved there if it weren't quite a bit more expensive than Tustin Ranch. I don't remember there being much in the way of apartments, but there was a small town home community that I really loved in TR and it had a 2 car garage.



There was a part of me that was really awed by all the newness of a lot of Irvine and Tustin at that time. Growing up in Santa Cruz where it's anti development, you just never saw new home developments that were more than a handful or so of houses, nothing in the way of apartments or new shopping centers. Even things like Target were 30 mins away in Watsonville. I don't know how to explain it, but when I drove around Turtle Rock, I felt at home. Maybe because it was the only thing that was older in the area?

No, I haven't. At first the stone wall made me think it was the old monastery, but I doubt that is what it would look like today. Where is that?

That is a trick question, Sempai, since it's not in Santa Cruz.



That is widely considered to be the first ranch house.

It was built by a modernist architect from the bay area, and is actually in Scott's Valley (almost to Santa Cruz) on the world's most dangerous highway, the 17, from San Jose. It won an architectural award for a small house competition, I believe.

The Mystery Spot is interesting and fun to visit. I have a few pictures of myself standing or hanging at a 30-45 degree angle there. My bf's grandparents lived just a few miles from there, right off the 17.
 
I would suggest to go rent for few years and decide where to to buy in Irvine after you are familiar with the city, schools and neighborhoods. It's not the matter of how the market is or will be, but make sure you know well in the area before you reside. I believe there are tons of apartments and homes for rent in Irvine ANYTIME.

They have an infant. They want to rent for a few years before buying. Schools don't matter for them at this time.





You should be able to rent a nice 3/2 single story house for $2000-$2500 anywhere in central OC. I've even seen nice ones in that range in Laguna Beach! or Irvine, CM, NPB, etc...



One reason for sticking with Irvine is if that is where you ultimately want to live. But maybe this is also an opportunity to see if you might enjoy one of the beach communities more?</blockquote>

But said that, I still would rather rent where I intend to buy if the costs are comparable. The 3 bedroom townhome apartment with attached garage are on special in Turtle Rock Canyon Apts right now - starting at something like $2600. The two bedroom townhome apartments with attached garage start at like $2300. So if your wife likes Turtle Rock, then you could live there now and enjot it even when just renting.



Turtle Rock Vista apartments are even a bit cheaper I think, but I love Turtle Rock Canyon Apts. If you go there to check it out, ask for Jeff. He is just awesome to work with.

There are some that have 2 car garage - I was lucky to get one of them.

It just has this ambiance about it - like you said, of feeling like home.
 
Had no idea about the first ranch house. My dad was an electrical contractor so got to see some pretty neat places when I was a kid. This property is one I'll never forget. In fact, they gave me a cocker spaniel. I was shocked to see what has been done to it

The pergraniteel kitchen looks very out of place in a country-style ranch house but otherwise it looks fine to me.
