Hi, I am new here.

I was curious of the latest of the final veteran's cemetery story and looked it up on google this week and found out that the City Council recently certified an Initiative ordinance rezoning the ARDA site as a Venerans Memorial Park and Cemetery District.

On March 17, 2020, petitioners submitted signatures to certify an initiative ordinance rezoning the ARDA site as a Veterans Memorial Park and Cemetery District, and removing cemeteries as approved land uses within the Great Park land designation.  At its meeting on May 12, 2020, the Irvine City Council certified the sufficiency of an initiative ordinance and adopted the required ordinance.

Does anyone know any background story of this and what would be the implication and the likely outcome for the short term and the long term?

Just curious what would be the likelihood that a cemetery would end up at ARDA site as I have two kids and I would prefer not to have a cemetery near a high school as there could be a lot of made up ghost story, etc. by having a cemetery by a school.

If anyone is interested, here's the link to the council meeting recording. It is the item #5.2
