Ok, so I see that we have a few decedent mountain bikers who frequent this forum. As you might know, the 24 in Hurkey Creek is coming up and I am short a few riders for my 10 man team. Our group of riders usually comes up with a 5 man and a 10 man team. Unfortunately, many of our regulars had things come up this year. The 5 man team is fine, but I have a spot or 2 left on my 10 man team that I dont know I can fill in time.
Its a relay style race and the course is about 11 miles - not too strenuous. Its located about 2 hours from OC in the mountains above palm springs, high enough to be in the pine trees.
The entry fee, once divided by 10, comes out to around ~$110, give or take a few. Ages range between 38-55 (though i am a bit younger). A few guys are bringing their elementry/middle school age kids. Its a great camp site. Day lap times range between 48 min to 65 min. So we have a wide range. I dont care about being competitive against the serious teams, but its fun to have people who are trying to get a personal best.
This is for April 24th weekend. Race is between saturday at noon to sunday at noon. Some come up Friday to get set up and run the course through to get familiar. If youve never done the course before, or raced before, this is the perfect introduction. A 10 man team like this should get you 2 laps in 24 hours (not hard at all), or 3 if you want it.
I'm still waiting to hear from a few last friends-of-friends, but I doubt they'll come through. If you're interested at all, let me know.
