Pedestrian Bridge over Jeffrey Open Space Trail??

I'm sure they will look much nicer when they're done.  They only just put them up last week, so they clearly have a long way to go before they're finished. The traffic getting to Jeffrey Trail Middle School has been dangerous for pedestrians.  This is going to make things a lot safer for the...

    Orchard Hills School

Hicks Canyon was overflowing and Orchard Hills was sitting there mostly empty since the homes up there weren't built.  It helped alleviate the crowds at Hicks.

    northwood communities

Personally, I prefer the ones that have community pools, which eliminates a lot of the ones off of Bryan/Yale/Eastwood/Southwood.  Racquetclub is a little older and feels a bit more run down, IMO. If you have younger kids that are elementary school aged or younger, I would choose Park...

    Gated communities in Irvine

Windstream and Canyon Creek are two small neighborhoods in Northwood (just south of Northwood Pointe, by the Hicks Canyon Trail) are also gated (unmanned).

Northwood Paseo - A New Village in Irvine

The last bit of undeveloped land in the Northwood area.  :(  I am dreading this new community.  The construction, the noise, the traffic... ugh! My only hope is that it will bring some life to the Northwood Shopping Center.

    Detached condo or Attached condo?

I would never choose an attached condo if I had the choice for a detached one.  After many years of living in apartments and townhouses, I hope I don't ever have to share walls again.  The noise from the neighbors' tvs, stereos, etc drove me insane.  Detached all the way.

    New Home v. Old Home

I really like the way new homes look - arched doorways, rounded corners, nice great rooms - but overall, I'd go for an older home (and that's what we did).  A lot of the older homes have bigger yards and bigger bedrooms for the kids.  They don't waste space having a master bathroom the size of...

    La Cresta at Woodbury

For families with younger kids, they will probably end up at the planned Great Park High School.  Who knows how that one will match up when it first opens - could end up better than NW.

[IHB] Step-Sister or Second Class Citizen?

In this case, I'd go with Tustin Ranch for sure.  I definitely wouldn't want to back to a major street.  Also, I would not want to live in Irvine, pay Irvine taxes, and go to Tustin schools, even good ones.  I'd rather just live in Tustin.

    Stonegate - future tract?

Cypress Village will have their own elementary school in September 2014, so that will alleviate that "problem."  At least those kids will be closer to their school now. As for Stonegate, no idea what's going in that space.

Eastwood Village (Planning Area 5B) coming 2017

As a nearby resident, I am SO not looking forward to this.  I've already watched the orange groves and most strawberry fields disappear.  Seeing more strawberry fields (ones where I can smell the sweet strawberries when I go for walks) vanish makes me sad.  I really don't want to deal with more...

    Public or Montessori Kindergarten

I would switch to public school.  It's FREE!  Montessori schools are outrageously expensive - why pay for an extra year if you don't have to?  I also think it's good for kids to make the transition to the structured style of public school in kindergarten, when the work is still pretty easy and...

    Swim Lessons

Waterworks is excellent.  I highly recommend them.  My son (5.5) has been going for two years and my daughter (2) just had her first lesson this week.  We're really happy there.  Most of our friends go there too and I've never heard a complaint.  The cost is a bit more (approx $20 for a 20...

[IHB] Open House Review: 2 Tiempo

I saw the house this weekend too.  The realtor's flier had a list price of $839,000 but now I'm seeing $859,000 on Redfin.  So I would definitely offer less than 859 and ask the realtor what the deal is.

[IHB] Open House Review: 8 Springfield

Similar units are currently listed at $1900/month to rent.  Seems high to me!
