T-minus ? until Countrywide goes under.. . .

that's funny, graphrix... we usually don't worry about beating a benchmark. we may, after the fact, look back and say, "well i had a good year, made 20% on my money, and beat the pants off of the s&p which only returned 9%." but as long as your goal is absolute return (20%) and not...

    Yikes! My TV broke...

i remember those were all good brands when we were window-shopping 2 years ago. we bought a toshiba, loves it. back then the good brands were samsung and sony, with toshiba, mitsubishi and one other (can't remember but not pioneer) not far behind. there's a personal taste factor...

    T-minus ? until Countrywide goes under.. . .

if the letters aren't that important, i would encourage you to take the hit and spend the time on just the reading. the material is not super hard to understand, the time commitment is the toughie. i counted the number of books and number of pages i had to read, and realized it was the...

    Yikes! My TV broke...

gitoc - yes plasma has the burn-in issue, and lcd has the pixels-don't-light-up-fast-enough-for-action-movie issue (forgot what it's called). so if you're a tv junkie, i'd get plasma because the picture is superior for the hours and hours that you will spend watching it. as long as the...

    Yikes! My TV broke...

plasma -> the picture looks better to me. two other things: 1) avoid stores that don't put their tv's next to each other. costco doesn't put their "generic" brands next to namebrands for a reason. the generic tv's look pretty good by themselves, but bad when next to a brand name and...

    T-minus ? until Countrywide goes under.. . .

graphrix - yes i did. but that was back in 97-98-99, passing rates were 50-60-70, as opposed to recent numbers like 35-50-70. also, things like credit default swaps, collateralized debt obligations, swaptions were just not mentioned at all! ah, the good old days!

    T-minus ? until Countrywide goes under.. . .

when i was in grad school, my finance professor quoted this stat: "80+% of all individuals (excluding investment firms) that trade options end up losing money". this was in 1991-92, but i can't imagine it's too different nowadays...dunno from where he got the stat though.

i've been...

Why is Portola Spring a Flop?

can you please explain: a builder, like TW, undergoes high turnover. how does that affect the actual floorplans they use? i was under the impression that builders have a binder of proprietary old floor plans, then whip out the binder every time they win a bid to build new homes...
