First time skiing - where should we go?

I'm thinking the same thing as ISM, I want to show my kid the snow, so I was thinking Park City, but I hate driving in the mountains even in the summer, is there a nice ski resort in California or Utah that does not require a long ride up the mountains? I was doing some research and all of the...

Will this Economy affect your home purchase?

I'm curious to see what builders TIC will sign up for Laguna Crossing. I wish S&S would build something there, that would really make me wait until LC opens. If I don't find anything acceptably priced (around $250 per sq. ft.) in South Irvine, I'll wait until LC opens, it is really close to a...

Bad mojo after removing rocks from Sedona Vortex

Gee, I bring rocks from my trips all of the time, just brought one from Versailles in France, it was just basically lying right in front of me. I brought some from my trips to Solvang, some from Big Bear. I've never heard of this particular superstition before, but it does look scary. I...

    General condo purchase question

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A LEGAL ADVICE, CONSULT AN ATTORNEY FIRST, BUT THIS SHOULD POINT YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION: That condo appears to have some construction defects. If it has been 10 years since it has been built (the exact date can be the date of notice of completion, close of escrow...

    Black Friday

Has anybody ever done the whole thing like hanging around the store at night to be the first in line? If you have, which store? I never shop on Black Friday because I don't like the crowds, but I'm kind of jealous of all the great deals I keep hearing about year after year, so I'm thinking...

    Vegetarian restaurant thread

Me too! That was my first time at Veggie Grill today at the Spectrum, I tried the Santa Fe sandwich and it was really really good, it absolutely tasted like chicken. Will definitely come again!

Who gave big money to ban gay marriage? (yes on 8)

I think SoCal78 got a valid point: we don't really need to know the names of the individuals who donated to either side, that just seems petty to me. Businesses are different, if that's important to some people to know their doctors or vendors political views, that is the one of the reasons we...

    Here we go

It is true, I think that McCain lost for a variety of reasons. I was also appalled by the boos during such speech. I'm still to figure out whether they booed at the mention of Obama's name (the first boos were heard when McCain said that he called to congratulate Obama) or booed at McCain for...

Do you know the link to the proposiitons' results? Thanks much!

    Here we go

I also noticed Palin barely holding back tears, and her husband's face was also very telling. I guess they already picked the furniture for the White House or whatever the VP's official residence is. I gotta hand it to McCain though: his speech was fantastic, and he was holding up very well...

Who do we want for Mayor?

I'm kind of torn myself. All these political ads masquerading as newspapers touting Kang and the team are really nauseating by now, and I don't really know whether what they say about the other team is true. I did not get anything from the other team, so I'm not sure what their platform is at...

Beware of your ING Direct CDs. I just lost $300.

School's First has even better solution: if you open your CD online, they have 2 options as to what to do with your CD: renew automatically or post the whole amount into an account you designate. I always choose the latter, and when my CD matures I know simply because all of the sudden I have...

Where is the good pizza in Irvine ?

I thought a pizza snob is somebody who only eats one kind (brand?) of pizza :) Unfortunately, I never had a chance to travel much, so the only NYC pizza I ever tried was in NY crust in Irvine... NY crust is good enough for me I must say, b/c I like the thin crust and more toppings. When I...

Crack throughout house = problem with foundation?

bkshopr's explanation is a very good one, completely agree. What is "cut pad" and "filled pad," don't think I quite understand the terminology. I'm just a layperson when it comes to construction, so forgive me if I'm not accurate in this description: I actually saw once how builders put the...

Where is the good pizza in Irvine ?

I think the right name for it is Spinach Upper Crust, it is like a pie with spinach, garlic, and cheese. Oh, I almost forgot: NY crust also gives you (not always, but sometimes) a discount coupon on your receipt, last time I got 15% of my next order of $25 or more. In addition to barbeque...

Where is the good pizza in Irvine ?

I'm a pizza snob, if I have to pay for a pizza, it has to be NY Crust (at Oak Creek center, Jeffrey & Alton). Try barbeque chicken, my personal favorite, and their spinach crust is also pretty good.

Crack throughout house = problem with foundation?

acpme, builder's rule of thumb: if you can stick a quarter in the crack, that's a warranty issue, they need to call the developer/builder. In my experience, any kind of cracks are bad, and there are three times as bad if the house was built on fill, that means it wasn't compacted properly and...

Imagine Palin as President... and make sure you mouse over some items in the picture...

Yup, me too! I get a good laugh out of the old ones, like the empty diploma frames on the wall. Priceless.

Palin in a swimsuit competition -vintage footage

"PTA-mom has her limitations"-very well said, totally agree. I think some of the attacks in the media were completely uncalled for, and all these Palin-inflatable dolls and other similar merchandise I keep hearing about on the Bill Handle show is quite unusual in my view, I don't recall we...

Imagine Palin as President... and make sure you mouse over some items in the picture...

They updated some stuff, there is now some guy under the desk, and if put your mouse cursor over the globe, it spins, then if you stop it, it names different countries. My personal favorite is a light switch on the wall next to the door, try it :)
