    Retail Openings and Closures

Went there for lunch today.  Pork chop is not bad, seasoned on the sweet side, and they use very little breading/potato starch on the pork.  Rice was a little clumpy, water was warm (for that authentic Taiwan experience).  $9.15 is a little on the pricy side though.  Service was good, seems like...

    Retail Openings and Closures

MCow Yakitori/Cafe is closed on Culver and the 5.  That restaurant was always kind of weird, where the two restaurant seems to share the same owner and kitchen, but they make you go through different doors.  I walked into the yakitori side the first time, thinking I can order the Taiwanese...

    Surround Sound

If you're looking to buy mounts, go to monoprice.com.  I got a silmilar one to the Costco link above and it was like 80.00.  I have an older Sony 52" XBR, so it's pretty heavy, but the mount has held it up for over 2 years, fully extending a few times to watch the game from the kitchen, with no...

    Unlocking your cell phone

I used digitalunlocking.com to unlock a iPhone 4S recently.  Paid 25.00.  My phone was straightforward, not blacklisted or in contract or anything.  This was a company phone from a few years ago and I had issues getting AT&T to unlock it because they kept asking me for the account number, which...

mdf or melamine - entertainment built in

By inside, I assume you mean the body of the cabinet, or what the cabinet makers refer to as the carcass?  I would go for at least MDF if you're going to put something heavy on the cabinet like a receiver/amp.  Melamine is basically particle board with a veneer.  MDF is also basically particle...

    Garage Floor- DIY?

If you decide to order direct from epoxy-coat.com, I would skip the premium kit, which includes a clear coat.  The epoxy itself is already pretty shiny, the clear coat is really unnecessary.  Also, don't apply the aluminum oxide non-slip if you plan on working on your car in the garage, save...

    Garage Floor- DIY?

The 150.00 stuff from HD is junk.  Get the 300.00 kit from Lowes, just as good as the stuff the pros use.  Or buy direct from epoxy-coat.com.  Prep work is key, and it's easier to prep a brand new garage floor than an old one.  Took me a day to acid wash the floors and I think mine turned out...

    Black Friday 2014

80" Vizio M801i-A3 on Costco.com for 1999.99 after 1000.00 discount today only, might be available in store, but it was still 2999 yesterday when I was there.  Weird how they charged tax on the pre-discounted price.  Their fine print says some state requires this, but this is still the first...

    Issues with dark wood flooring

I like the one on the right too.  It's dark, but light enough that you can still see a lot of the details of the wood, it has a lot more character than the one on the left.

    Issues with dark wood flooring

I love our dark floors, but it has a satin, distressed finish.  I think because of the satin finish, I don't see dust as easily.  With the distressed finish, scratches and scrapes look like it's supposed to be that way.  This is what I have in Grand...

    Ooma as a landline replacement

This.  Obi also do not have the monthly taxes and fees.  You can only port cellular numbers to Google Voice, but that can be circumvented easily by buying a prepaid SIM, porting your landline number over to make it a cellular number then porting it again to Google Voice.  A little bit of a...

    Birthday cake

Most of the Asian bakeries make cakes with whipped cream as icing. Asians don't like sweet icing.  We have had good luck with either Paris Baguette inside Zion Market, or J Sweet bakery inside the 99 Ranch plaza on Jefferey.

    AT&T Uverse at Stonegate?

I talked to the tech that came out to install U-Verse and he said that in Stonegate, the Fiber goes to the ONT at the house, it's not to a box in the neighborhood and then VDSL to the house.  Makes sense for new construction where they can lay the fiber in the beginning instead of trying to...

    What do you drive?

I had a B8 S4 Avant 6MT a few years back when we were DINKs.  Ordered the car exactly the way I wanted it, and loved it.  Had the car for 3 years, had 18k miles on it before someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse.  I drive a Golf TDI now, night and day difference, going from 12MPG to 35MPG...

    Whole House Fan

I was actually referring to the quietcoolfan.com link at the bottom of that post, but you're right, the 300.00 installation is for the attic fan.  The installation instructions from quietcoolfan's page looks pretty straight forward, it would probably cost around the same as a attic fan install...

    Whole House Fan

What's the diff between this fan and the fan Ribeye posted here: http://www.talkirvine.com/index.php/topic,11931.msg240478.html#msg240478 The design looks about the same.  Ribeye says installation is about 300.00, so the installed price is about 500.00 less with quietcoolfan.com.
