Mcdonna, congratulations on your new place! Please do let us know how the seismic retrofit stuff goes. I am also considering getting this done if I buy an older place, but I've been able to find surprisingly little info about it online. Most of the info is on seismic retrofitting of...
Wow, that's pretty trippy. I guess cellphone companies can claim an environmental victory on that one -- "No need to send out a helicopter after your kids when it's time for dinner -- just call 'em!".
Thanks for the news. Wonder if they'll update the MLS listing photo after the cleanup? I always thought that was the most comically horrible-looking photo of a "house" I'd come across on Redfin.
Thank you for the key to the graph, Graph.
Looks like they or one of the previous owners did a nice job with the remodel, but yeah, seems pretty high given the location. Not too often do you see a price on a house being substantially higher than even the highest of the 9 estimate prices that...
You mean one taken from the air?
I don't spend time in HB often enough to be able to comment on that city, but I can only recall seeing / hearing one in Irvine maybe once or twice in the several years I've been living here.
I don't think Irvine has its own police helicopter, whereas Costa Mesa...
Yeah, thanks much for the recommendation -- I actually discovered that blog a couple of months ago, and wished it had existed back when I was living in CM. I really like how they interpret the different graffiti (a topic that's always been purely opaque to me) and tell you whether it's tagger-...
The west side has some annoying aircraft noise as well -- back when I lived near Harbor Blvd., police helicopters used to circle around for hours on most weekend nights, and frequently midweek as well. Not sure if that's still the case, though.
I'm not paranoid. I was a witness to a lot of property crime in one Costa Mesa apartment complex I lived in, though the other Costa Mesa places I lived at didn't have any major problems (all the graffiti that used to appear on another property I lived at was unpleasant and worrisome, though)...
Gotcha -- thanks for the clarification. Yeah, my Costa Mesa saved search on Redfin has recently turned up a number of properties that have either a major street over the back fence or a parking lot of some kind of large business (e.g. the shopping center where that Hoag women's center is, or a...
Thanks for this service, freedomCM! I rented for years in Costa Mesa (currently in Irvine), and have my eye on the city as a possible place to buy when the prices are right.
Ah, I hadn't realized MalibuRenter was calculating the inflation-adjusted versions himself. I believe he uses the CPI...
Thanks for the heads-up. That base closure manager saying that testing for TCE vapor intrusion into houses "isn't necessary" doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
Agreed. I suggested considering a ban on Kirk because he was intentionally derailing the conversation from housing for his own amusement in the comment section on a near-daily basis with his troll character (thank God he responded to the complaints by stopping that, and now when he occasionally...
Okay, I understand what you're saying, but once a village is done or nearly done with its initial sell phase, I don't see that that branding aspect would continue to have a large effect. Also I don't see how this would correlate directly with how many short sales a neighborhood has.
Aside from...
