Title: Does whole house insulation help with sound dampening?
Post by: aaronpaul on March 10, 2015, 06:13:06 AM
As an option, the builders usually provide an option for whole house insulation.  Does this help reduce sound between rooms?  I can imagine it helps a little but is it great enough to justify the cost?

Yes. Highly recommend doing this. We have it in our current house and didn't have it in previous homes. I can tell a difference.  Also the cost isn't outrageous.  It was a couple thousand for us.  Not bad.

+1. For our home that we built in San Diego, we did it and it was very effective for sound.

Can't see why it wouldn't help. Although if serious go with this company, you'd have to tear up everything though:

It's $1,546 at Strada for a ~2,700 sq ft house. We'll be adding this option. It makes the walls and floor between first and second level feel and sound more solid. This price includes insulating the exterior wall of the garage. Hopefully this minimizes the sauna effect so common in garages on hot days.
