What's The Future of Small Businesses in Irvine?

My wife and I have been living here in the Westpark Community in Irvine for a little over 2 years now and in those 2 years we have seen some small and not so small businesses go under.

From restaurants at the Spectrum, Mervyns at Crossroads Shopping Center, Lakewoods Restaurant by the Lake and now that small children's photo shop (Kiddie Kandids) next to Target at the Spectrum, all of them have gone under.

Kandids studio looks like everyone just suddenly disappeared. Pens are still haphazardly rolling around on counters, PCs are still on desks. All that's left is a sign thanking for the business over the past 40-some years and poof theyre gone like ghosts.

I tell ya, it makes me wonder, worry and ask how long till the rebuild and rebound?

The employees did not get paid the last two weeks they worked. Those girls didnt have to do this and took time out of thier day to do the right thing when thier company told them to not do it. I talked to them. They are going to do it one more time to see if they can get more people thier pictures they paid for. What is amazing is that some thankless people still treated them like they were working for the horrible company and were rude to them, when they really deserved a medal. They did this out of the goodness of thier own hearts. Some people!

I feel sorry for all the Businesses going down in Irvine, basically, with the high rents, they're just working for the Landlord...
