Got this news flash from the principal....

"We have been selected as a National Blue Ribbon School!  Very exciting for all of us here at Stonegate and each member of our community, student, staff and parent, can feel a great sense of PRIDE in our new recognition.  If you go and visit our website athttp://iusd.org/sg/index.htmlyou can see the "Breaking News" update we included in our regular Stonegate News Broadcast this morning."http://newsflash.iusd.org/2013/09/i...ary-school-has-earned-a-national-blue-ribbon/

Interesting.  This would make the first elementary school in Irvine to win it for a second time.  They won it before in when they were Westwood Basics Plus.

The enrollment will now be crazy.  Same thing happened at Northwood when they won it in 2008.  Enrollment went from something like 400 to 600 in one year.

did not get it why Blue Ribbon is so important?

It's just an award that shows that the school is either high performing or showed significant improvement with a significant under-privileged population.  It's pretty selective so it's sort of the National Merit Scholar program for school.
