Hello All,

I am wondering if anybody ever heard about Quiet Zones where it restrict the train conductor to use their horn unless it is emergency? I was thinking since Irvine is such an expensive area, the city would have file the petition already but it didn't.

Yes I understand what it is for. But I saw some other less expensive cities has implemented the 'quiet zones' and amazed that Irvine doesn't.

Personally I don't really mind at all... it is soothing for me most of the time but once in a while the train conductor honk their horn like crazy in the middle of the night.

Riverside has these, with no compromise towards safety, and a significant decrease in noise towards residents near the tracks. Basically, the city installed small speakers pointed at the roads where there are crossings. When a train goes by, the speaker make a horn noise, but just directed at the street and at a lower volume, so it's not as loud in houses by the tracks.

And the one at Harvard is the one with the most nearby residential areas.

It don't think it has enough street traffic to warrant an underpass makeover... or is that where all the Columbus Grove mello roos are going to go (since we know there's no school).

It is a pretty busy street in the early morning and evening since there is a school and a gateway for people to to work from Irvine.
