Odor in water

The gas/oil/plastic smell is definitely coming from the PEX. I noticed the same on our house when it was new, but now that 2.5 years have gone by, the smell is all gone.

My house is about 3 years old.  I wonder if you got used to the smell after 2.5 years.  We just moved in so the smell may be new to us.  However if the smell is from PEX, that is concerning especially since there is new evidence that PEX leaches out chemicals contrary to previous belief.

I know it's been a while but what did your test results yield?

Im sending my water out for testing later today.  It costs a couple hundred bucks, but thats worth knowing or not knowing whats in your water.

The water in north Irvine is terrible.  The hard water leaves residues in the toilet bowl and shower.  Has anyone installed both water softener systems and purification drinking water systems in their home?  Recommend anyone that was relatively affordable?

Socal Water -http://www.yelp.com/biz/so-cal-water-murrieta?osq=socal+water

I have a Fleck softening system with a charcoal filter, and a reverse osmosis system with alkaline filter.  Pricing may be higher than other vendors, but these guys are solid.

Regardless of vendor, make sure you go with a salt/brine system..."salt-less" systems aren't true softening systems...all they do is change the chemistry of the water so that the minerals/chemicals don't stain as much, but they don't remove any of it.

Reverse osmosis + alkaline for drinking water is awesome.  No more Arrowhead bottles littered everywhere.  Hydroflask (insulated) and Kleen Kanteen (stainless non-insulated for dishwasher) bottles from Amazon also.

Good luck.
