MTV is dead

The MTV video awards is so out of touch with both generations. They are no longer relevant and i have finally concluded that they need to stop having an award ceremony as both MTV and the music business is dead.

I'm guessing you are not 12-34, and have not seen any stats from the show...

This year's MTV Awards:

*Were the HIGHEST rated Telecast in ALL OF CABLE for the 12-34 demograpghic so far THIS YEAR.

* Over 23 million viewers, over 12 million being 12-34 demo

* Day after= 10million page hiys on MTV.com which is 0 more than last year.

I did not watch, but you are very incorrect in your statement...

Well thanks for the crazy stats but i will live in blissfull ignorance as MTV and the music industry are still dead to me.

Maybe dead to you...but previously you were speaking for 2 generations, rather than yourself...

"of touch with both generations"

If MTV is dead to you, why do you care so much to start a thread on it? Y start a thread about something you could care less about and then include incorrect facts? waste of time.

I'm adicted to Palladian, they show a lot of great stuff like the Isle of wight fest, Mandela's 90th bday and keeps me up to date with all the new Brit Bands etc...then again I'm still stuck in the 80's but there is still a huge amount of emerging talent over there IMHO....

Petah, there's nothing wrong with being stuck in the 80s.

It's a great era - I'm still in it too :red:

Actually, I went to a Bar Mitzvah this past weekend and all the 13 year olds were dancing to 80's music.

They were even dancing and singing to Michael Jackson's Thriller. They even had the video moves down pat.

80s rock!

Do you watch BBC America? If you start watching Skins, this will drag you back to the present. Very good program

CalGal...I'm talking about Ultravox, Tears for Fears, Genesis, Howard Jones 80's. Disco was any American thing more or less...

Stuff, I've never seen skins, what night is it on?

I've never heard of Ultravox. But I still have the CDs for the others (now they are on my iPod - I'm not that old).

I saw Phil Collins in a hotel elevator a few months ago in LA.

Sunday night. Set in Bristol. Teenagers experimenting with drugs/sex/etc. Funny in a dark way (not like US sitcoms). It is very censored for US TV. It also has subtitles for the American viewers

You will either love it or hate it

Well, the Video Awards might have been crappy.....but the after parties were alive and well in Hollywood after the show. They ran us ragged until 5 in the morning. Michael Phelps and entourage included. The party he attended at a Mt. Olympus mansion had over 600 guests in and of itself. We had to set up what's called a skirmish line because about 100 people who weren't invited....wanted in really bad and try to overrun the event security staff. Geez.

Troop, We're going to the Igor Premier and after party on Saturday. Are you working in the area? I'm sure it won't be as exciting as the video awards as it's just an animated movie. I'm looking forward to it.

There should be some celebrities attending (John Cusack, Steve Buscemi, Eddie Izzard, Sean Hayes, John Cleese, Molly Shannon, Jay Leno, Jennifer Coolidge, and Arsenio Hall).

Sounds like one of my weekly parties troop!

Thanks for the info stuff...I will tivo it...I'm normally at one of those hollywood parties troop mentioned on Fridays

I'll be working Friday and Saturday night. Peter....seriously ? Have I shut down a party you've been at before ? ;)

CalGal. PM me the info on the after party and I'll stop by and say hello.
