Irvine's 5th High School

Just for my understanding on this issue is the following a true statement.

If you are in Pavilion Park you are zoned in the following manner:

TODAY thru 2016
Elementary:    Canyon View Elementary
Middle School:  Jeffrey Trail Middle School
High School:    Northwood High School

In 2016 if 5th High School is built at Site A (IUSD)
Elementary:    Great Park Elementary??
Middle School:  Jeffrey Trail Middle School??
High School:    5th High School or Northwood High?

After 2016 if land is seceded to SVUSD
Elementary:    Great Park Elementery??
Middle School: Jeffrey Trail Middle School??
High School:    Northwood High School

Appreicate anyone that could clear this up.  Thanks.

Duh... I goofed as well. Thought that red line was irvine blvd. that would suck though for future residence of the great park.  They need to straighten things out.

I wish bones would have posted this correction earlier... Before I sent my hate mails off that started with... "As a home owner at PP".  Lol

It also wouldn?t affect many residents, only future residents, said Irvine Unified Trustee Mike Parham. He said the territory the board has suggested giving up does not include the Great Park Neighborhoods and Pavilion Park developments.

I'm confused.  If they are not giving up the Great Park Neighborhoods, what are they giving up then if the HS is not built on time ?  Woodbury ? Portola Springs? Stonegate ?  Maybe he meant we are not giving up Pavillion Park, but for future Great Park neighboorhood, its up in the air to pressure 5P to get their acts together.

Here is a article from OC Register.  It will not affect existing residents including Pavilion Park.  Only future residents that are in the shaded area that is subject for border changes if it is implemented.

However, the article mentions that it will/likely adversely impact Great Park neighborhoods to the north and nearby neighborhoods (above the shaded area) by approx. $40,000 on average if proposed changes are made.

Actually means PP property value just went up. Bigger lots... IUSD.  ;)

I believe the first Great park school will be a K -8.  Then onto High school.

It will be interesting to see where PP feeds into if there is no 5th high school...Northwood is going have take on OH/SG/PS.  Irvine will take on Woodbury and CV.  The only school that I can see with opening would be Woodbridge.

After reading the quotes... PP will still feed into north wood hs.

Eventually that new hs has to be built.. With the OH kids coming in... They'll need to move all SG and great park neighborhoods to that new facility.

I think at this point...we are just going to have wait to see what happens.  Again, I think the most logical solution would be keep PP in IUSD considering it will probably be built out by 2016.

The rest of the GP development, however, is probably fair game.

This is you right?  from before?

"Again, this is not a matter of my preference.  It is matter of what is logistically reasonable.  Most of GP has not been built out and IUSD has not made (other than the studies for the 5th high school) a significant investment into GP.  Thus, it makes most logistical and financial sense to let GP students go to to SVUSD if that's the route that IUSD wants to take."

So what is the most logistical solution?  I guess it's protect Stonegate as much as possible right?  ;)

Planned site of IUSD?s fifth high school OK?d by Department of Toxic Substances Control
Thursday, April 10, 2014
IUSD is another step closer to beginning construction on its fifth comprehensive high school after receiving word that the proposed site has been cleared for use by the state Department of Toxic Substances Control.

Lloyd Linton, the district?s director of facilities planning and construction, shared the latest developments on high school No. 5 at Tuesday night?s Board of Education meeting. Holding a letter from the DTSC dated April 4, he said the agency has concurred with IUSD?s Preliminary Environmental Assessment in determining that the planned location for the campus near the northeast border of the Orange County Great Park meets the rigorous safety standards for school construction. The DTSC added that no further assessment is necessary.

IUSD needs to open its fifth high school by the fall of 2016 to accommodate new homes set to be built around the Great Park and to prevent overcrowding at Irvine, Northwood, University and Woodbridge high schools. To meet that deadline, the district must secure all necessary state approvals, formally acquire the property from developer Heritage Fields and begin construction by June.

Because the DTSC is responsible for ensuring that communities are safe from contaminants, its stamp of approval is considered a significant milestone for school construction. Yet a number of additional steps remain before IUSD can break ground, and the timeline is extremely tight.

Linton said his staff has already submitted the DTSC letter to the California Department of Education, which must ultimately sign off on both the suitability of the site and the building plans. Those same plans also require a green-light from the Division of the State Architect, which looks closely at structural safety and accessibility.

The good news is that all remaining state approvals are expected within a week or two, according to Linton. Once that happens, and once the appraisal process is complete, IUSD and Heritage Fields can close escrow on the property. If all goes as planned, the Board of Education could be asked to approve an implementation agreement at its May 6 meeting, and school construction could begin in June.

In the meantime, IUSD continues to meet with Heritage Fields to coordinate next steps. Andreas Chialtas, who is serving as IUSD?s legal counsel, told the board that the developer and the district are in agreement on the timeline for transferring ownership of the property, and both sides are working together to ensure grading permits are in place from the City of Irvine and the state.

?The last few weeks we?ve had a number of very productive meetings in terms of how we would coordinate our grading with their grading, and how we might be able to start construction out there sometime in June,? Chialtas said.

Another update on the fifth high school will be presented at the board?s Facilities Study Session on April 22.

New oil new contamination has been found , less than 400 feet from the proposed 5th high school site.

Will this change school district final approval to Irvine?s fifth high school site on next Tuesday ?

The OC register article mention:
The city sent a 147-page soils report to the school district in March, politely encouraging it ?to consider the need for additional testing to further inform your school siting decision.?
