Councilman Jeff Lalloway said he?d like to see an amphitheater built in the Great Park ?as soon as possible? so Orange County residents won?t have to drive to Los Angeles or San Diego for outdoor concerts. But, he said, those plans are being held up because of the environmental review process the county is undertaking for an adjacent piece of land.
?We are in a holding pattern right now because of the county?s plans to develop 100 acres with very dense development,? Lalloway said. That means plans for roads to the amphitheater can?t be planned yet, either, which would be the starting point. An amphitheater would go in somewhere just north of the Irvine Metrolink station, according to plans, he said. But no spot has been chosen definitively.
?Land is at a premium in Orange County, so there?s not that many other places to build right now,? Lalloway said. ?With what we?re doing at the Great Park, it?s a natural fit for a concert venue.?
