A 30-day bypass detour is planned at the intersection of Sand Canyon Avenue and Burt Road beginning May 27. During the detour, westbound motorists will be shifted to the new alignment of Sand Canyon, while eastbound motorists will remain in existing lanes. While the detour is under way, Burt Road and Old Town Irvine will only be accessible by making a right turn from eastbound Sand Canyon. Traffic exiting Old Town Irvine via Burt Road must make a right turn onto eastbound Sand Canyon. U-turns are allowed at Oak Canyon Road and Nightmist to assist motorists in navigating the detour. Message boards will be onsite 10 days prior to the confirmed start date reminding motorists of the left-turn restrictions.
