Vietnam immigration agent writes "Fu*k You" in PRC tourist's passport

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
This goes far beyond the "9 dashed lines" dispute.  VN nationalists are happy at the Hague invalidating PRC's claims, but behind close doors they're gritting their teeth at the prospect of losing their own EEZ claims.

Per the Hague's ruling, the "above water features", including the largest Taiping (Itu Aba) island in the disputed area are "rocks" ineligible for EEZ (1).  This effectively means all extended EEZ claims based on little islands, from all parties including China, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei are invalidated.

While the Hague's ruling did not take a stance on actual sovereignty of various islands, the purpose of taking possession of them in the first place is to stake a claim on the EEZ.  Vietnam spent considerable resources in taking and holding the islands for many decades, and their efforts are now spilled soup.

To add salt to injury, while the Philippines has been granted EEZ based from Palawan, the Hague determined that Chinese fishermen have traditional fishing rights within PH EEZ (around Scarborough Shoal area), but not Vietnamese fishermen.

In future, the Hague's ruling will also have negative impact on Japan's Okinotorishima EEZ claim of 400,000 sq km ocean area East of Philippines, should Manila (or anyone else) decides to take them to the Hague.

How about don't take over areas that is not yours?
The people of China need to realize that the Chinese government actions are reckless/irresponsible regarding the South China Sea.

Reckless would be sending the PLAN to sink PAVN and taking most of the VN held islands in the disputed area.

Risk-averse is occupying little reefs to build your own sand castles.

Up until recently, Vietnam has spent more resources in taking and occupying islands in the disputed area in hope of staking their own EEZ claims.  While they oppose China's competing claim, the real reason why they should be pissed is the PRC pushing PH to the Hague, and consequently the Hague's decision likely invalidated VN's own claims and efforts over many decades.

Creating instability in the region, it's not the way to go. I can tell you this. Little reefs? Man made islands with military equipment, vehicles, and jets.

If they think that is to create a solid defense. Think again

So why occupy small reefs to build artificial islands, when you can blow away a Vietnamese garrison on a real island nearby and just take it?

Some people like to indulge in their fantasy that the Hague's ruling will only negatively impact China's claims over the South China Sea.  Obviously they are not one of the other claimants, including Taiwan that was thrown under the bus.
