Tilting Chimney

Hi,

I am looking at historic homes in Orange County and found an interesting house.  One of the things I noticed is that the chimney is starting to tilt away from the house.  From what I've read, this can sometimes happen due to the weight of the chimney.  Some chimneys are mounted on separately poured chimney pads while others are put on the foundation itself.  Does anyone have any experience in dealing with something like this?  I'd like to hire someone to take a look at it and tell me how much it would take to repair something like that.  Perhaps a foundation inspector...?

Thanks!

1890 historic, kit house historic,  1920 revival historic, depression era historic, post war historic, mid century historic, atomic ranch historic or suburgatory historic. Different eras have different foundation system and methods of how masonry construction was tied to the structure.

My realtor told me he has some recommendations on foundation repair folks who can make some recommendations.  My realtor also went over some of the differences (as was noted above) between the different style homes and how the chimney was laid.

Thank you!
