Not sure why I'm posting about it here. I guess it's not every day you see someone drop dead in your neighborhood. Sad SoCal.
 
I was outside exercising. I heard sirens. I was just crossing the street and saw our neighborhood was roped off with caution tape, road flares, police, etc. There was a body lying on the sidewalk under a yellow tarp. There's a bike in the bushes. I asked the officer if there was a fatality. He said he didn't know but while he was talking to me, I look over his shoulder and see feet sticking out, so... yeah. Neighborhood gossip says it's a young man in his late teens or early 20's who was riding his bike. He was found lying on the sidewalk bleeding out of his eyes, nose, and mouth.

The van just came to scoop him up. Some friends are standing on the sidewalk crying.
 
And it pisses me off. Before I left the house, I decided I could go for a walk in that exact spot and risk getting hit by a car or go to the local park. We don't know what happened but I've seen enough to know people are too much in a rush. It's even dangerous turning onto that street in a car. They'll come barreling towards you all impatient. Although I thought I may be paranoid, I picked the park. I'm glad I did.
 
Ugh. I can't get the image out of my head of that guy laying there like a slab o' meat on the sidewalk.

One time I was driving down the 55 in the right-hand lane and came across a fresh motorcycle accident. I had to drive through the guy's pool of blood. It splattered like rain. That was 9 years ago but I can't erase it from my head. This is like the same thing. Way less gory but still shocking.

No,  a ruptured brain aneurysm will result in a sudden worst headache of your life and bleeding around the brain (i.e. Subarachnoid Hemorrhage)--no bleeding from orifices. On the other hand, massive head trauma after being thrown at a high rate of speed off the motorcycle results in a basilar skull fracture resulting lots of blood and liquid coming from your ears/nose etc....

The OC Register article doesn't state whether the person wore a helmet--they do save lives when used.
 
It turns out he was riding a dirt bike with knobby tires that are not made for smooth road surfaces. It was not street legal. Speed is suspected to be a factor which wouldn't surprise me because last night, we realized this is the same bike that has been speeding in front of our house that last couple weeks. The witnesses say he was not wearing a helmet. What's ironic is he crashed right in front of our digital speed sign that measure how fast you're going. They seriously need to do something about this stretch of road. Thank goodness school was in session at the time.

back home where i grew up we had a long stretch of road entering the town where people would speed all the time, parents had wanted a stop sign for the longest time, they eventually got it. unfortunately, it took a kid being hit/killed before the city put up the stop sign.
 
I'm really worried about not only the drivers but the stupidity of our young ones. Just now after doing a school pick-up, I darn near killed a kid. He rode his bike out into the street from between two parked vehicles. I obviously couldn't see him until I was on top of him and swerved out of the way narrowly missing an oncoming car. I honked at the kid on the bike and he pulled over. Mean Mom SoCal yelled at him: "I almost hit you, Love! Be careful!!" He said okay. I keep driving, look in my rear view and see him do it AGAIN. Having two boys is very scary indeed. You just know it is inevitable they are going to not exercise good judgement because they think they are invincible. We've all done things our parents would not approve of. It is going to happen. Eeeks.

Foothill Ranch is a very close-knit community. It turns out this guy's mom works at our local grocery store so we see her all the time. The grandparents and cousins live here too and go to our school. Last night there was a candlelight vigil for him. There's a bunch of friends gathered around the scene right now.
 
I have seen 3 friends and relatives who died from a brain aneurysm and all had similar symptoms of bleeding through the orifices. Another could be toxicity poisoning. I asked my neighbor who is a surgeon and he confirmed that the bleeding was from a brain aneurysm that occurred while the man was riding his bike and the crash was secondary.
 
Hmm...the anatomy of the brain does not allow profuse bleeding as described from a simple rupture of a cerebral aneurysm. Yes it can cause someone to black out (syncope) or even stroke symptoms (CVA) or severe headache (cephalgia). All those could have caused someone to crash their motorcycle. But as for fluid/bleeding from the ears (otorrhea) and nose (rhinorrhea) you need to have a skull fracture from the fall at the base of the brain (i.e. basilar skull fracture). It is possible the  driver had both conditions but more likely he was simply driving too fast and lost control without a helmet.
