Sprint reception in Irvine?

I've considering about switching from AT&T over to Spring and upgrade to iPhone 4S.  Believe it or not I'm still using the original 2G iPhone from 2007, which is why many of my food pics look crappy.

I'm interested to know if anyone can comment on Sprint's reception and service in Irvine area, specifically Oak Creek.

p.s. I just started a new job in Irvine and we have a lot of IT openings.  If anyone is looking, feel free to PM me.

We switched from AT&T to Sprint for the 4s, and the data speed has been a huge disappointment. The data coverage is reliable. One day I am seeing 1 Mbps and the other day it's 0.2 Mbps. However, Sprint's pricing is hard to beat. If you can afford it, Verizon is the way to go. It's pricier, but I have seen people get consistent results with it.

Bitmaster summed it up:

- Sprint has decent coverage... is usually better where AT&T is not (and from what I remember, it's okay in Oak Creek).

- AT&T has faster data speeds on the iPhone 4S because of the HSPA+ and the dual antennas.

- Verizon is the most reliable (not sure why it's better than Sprint considering they use the same CDMA technology) but the most expensive of the 3.

I would test it out, get a Sprint iPhone 4S with a new number, see how it works... if it's good, port your AT&T number over... if not... just return the phone within the 30 (or is it 15?) day period.

How much do you save at Sprint versus AT&T or Verizon?

If you stayed with AT&T you could have had the fastest IP4s downloads with their HSPA+ network. For some people that may not matter since they use WiFi quite often.

With  Verizon I would have ended up paying $30 extra each month. Also, I would not have had unlimited data and texting on all lines.

About AT&T, I had already decided I was switching from AT&T since the voice reception at both home/work was very poor. I haven't had any issues with voice calls with Sprint.

This is Sprint's offering for the iPhone 4S plan:

Everything Data Plan:  $70
Unlimited mobile to mobile, messaging, data
450 mins to landline

Smartphone surcharge:  $10
Sprint International Long Distance:  $4

AAA discount:  10% off per month

I just picked up my iPhone 4S from the Sprint store in Tustin (next to Whole Foods market).  The store staff really went out of their way to assist me in getting the phone and try to maximize my savings.  My work has 12% corporate discount, but AAA's discount is 10% off plus they waive the $35 activation fee.  So overall you're better off with AAA.  I was also told that some financial institutions (banks) enjoy corporate discount rate of 20% or more off their monthly bill.

Performance wise, at Oak Creek I'm on Sprint 3G, running speed tests the DL is 1 Mbps and upload is 0.56 Mbps.

On side note, while researching lens kit for the iPhone, I found a company called Photojojo that's hiring remote workers:http://photojojo.com/jobs/

For those with customer service experience, web dev, and professional writers, here's your chance to telecommute!  They also have a lot of fun stuff on their online store for photography fans:http://photojojo.com/store/

p.s.  now that I've upgraded from my original 2007 iPhone (2G), ya'll should be seeing better qualify food pics in near future.

Yup, that's the app.

I'm now at the office near John Wayne Airport, the 3G performance on Sprint is really spotty.  In comparison, my coworker with Verizon 4G (Motorola Droid) gets ~8 mbps download perofrmance.

I have my phone encased in an Otter box right now, 2 layers of hard shell plastic + rubber.  Not sure if this causes performance issues.

ive been out of public accounting for over 5 years now and i still get my 18% discount from my old firm on my AT&T bill. looks like they never update their current employee list.

Here's a my performance test result on Sprint 3G:

At home in Oak Creek (Alton/Jeffery area), I get 1 to 1.1 mbps in early evening, and 1.64 mbps in later evening.

At work near Michaelson and Jamboree area (inside an 11F building), I get .3 to 1.1 mbps during work hours.  However, from time to time the 3G connection is spotty.

In Placentia, I get around 0.4 to 0.5 mbps.

The speed list above is for download.  Generally the upload speed ranges from .25 to .8 mbps.

If you're looking for something a lot faster with 4G speed, Verizon 4G has good performance by Jamboree and Michaelson.  On the Motorola Droid you can get ~8 Mbps during work hours (Jamboree/Michaelson), and in late evenings the speed can go up to 12-16+ mbps in Mission Viejo area.  However, unless if you're an old cusotmer with grandffathered (but transferrable to new phone) unlimited data plan, you will pay more than Sprint and get less.

Just ran performance test and got 0.96 mbps download and 0.29 mbps upload.  I sit on 2F in 11F building near the center of the floor.
