Settled for a 2CWG...

EDIT: This was an April Fool's Joke.

It's actually been a while now, trying to keep my location anonymous, but IHO has finally left the building (well... our old building).

However... in order to keep in our price range and desired location... had to give up on my 3CWG quest.

But, like I mentioned in the other thread, we found a solution (and these are pics I can post without giving clues to my actual whereabouts):

So at least we have room for our junk... and I can finally park the IHOMobile in the garage (it's been an "outdoor" vehicle at our previous home).

It's really crazy out there... what we went through is probably a story best served by another post (and yes... above list).

So do all garages qualify for this upgrade?  How do they make sure you won't come out to a storage/IHO mobile sandwich in the morning... We're gonna have to do this sooner or later... at least it looks better than a 3CWG with the side garage stuffed with crap... I always hate seeing that..

Congratulations IHO! We would love to know where you moved, how much you paid, and most importantly.. was it an all cash buy.. but, we will keep our lips sealed and curiosity contained :-)

your garage door somewhat rules out new construction. builders nowadays does not use plain white garage door to improve exterior aesthetics so the lack of driveway or lot size would be less noticeable.

That's what we've been thinking every time we look in our garage... to see it all smashed on our cars. I think as long as you have wood framing in your garage, you can do this (someone in the garage thread mentioned that this can't be done on steel framed homes yet).

There is a lifetime guarantee on the product (but not on the damage it causes I assume)... each 8x4 unit is able to handle 600lbs of weight so as long as you don't put 2 of me on it, it should be okay.

Watching him install it, I can see how it should hold since it's a T-bar connector. The guy also recommends putting the heavier items in the corners and to make sure you weigh some things because books and electronics when stacked can get up there in weight. We had to put one of the units farther away from the wall because the outer door was too tall... but then we used that area to hang a bike (he even installed the bike hooks for us).

After seeing it installed, I highly recommend it.

Even if we did end up with a 3CWG, we would probably get these just because of the room it frees up. And while it may not be as convenient as garage cabinets, it gives you more floor space and elbow/car door room. My kids think that now that we can clear all those moving boxes out of the other side of the garage, it's their new rumpus area (I guess it can still be when I pull the IHOMobile out).

Very observant... you may also notice a standard water heater.

After all these years I am sorry to see you compromise.  A garage and its desired attributes are sacrosanct to me.  As I have told others, I buy the garage and my poor wife has to find a way to grin and bear whatever house comes with it (just one of a million reasons I begged her to be my wife  :-*).  Both times we landed in fixer-uppers, the first being 800 square feet in a sketchy neighborhood, and now with 2500 square feet in an area we both love.  It did take years of patient looking.

IHO - im getting 12 ft long x 6 ft tall X 2 ft deep of wall cabinets installed this week in my 3CWG.  :P

This reminds me of a thread from 3 years ago:

Sorry everyone... but couldn't resist.

Anyways... the garage racks are new... had them put into our current home this past weekend... but alas... that's the only change in the IHO way of life (wish it could have been more).

You guys can unthank my first post... but I do appreciate the sentiments as it has been and still is a long arduous journey. At least daedalus can feel better we haven't compromised... yet. With the way things are going, it seems my 3CWG dream is disappearing but at least I can take solace that there are some 2CWG solutions available.

We did make an offer late last year but of course there were many others and since we were a good amount below asking, we didn't really have a chance. It ended up going for around asking price and in retrospect, we should have done it... but it was only a 2CWG. :)

Happy April Fool's Day!

He got me too.  I thought it was still March...boy, time has flown by fast.  I might put in some cabinets after I do my garage floor epoxied....still need to do the kitchen too.

@USC:

Who are you using for your epoxy and cabinets? Garage Concepts did our racks and they do those other two things too.

The guy was very helpful and I highly recommend him.

You're going to love it, Qwerty. The guy we bought our house from was a garage-type person, I guess. He had overhead storage racks PLUS a long wall of cabinets (and bench, etc.) installed in ours. I didn't really give it too much thought when looking at the house but I'd have to say we do get a lot of use out of them. Random people always comment on the cabinets when our door is up (I don't get why. Must be a guy thing. Weird, huh.)

I was gonna get a few quotes for the epoxy from folks that my clients used....as for the cabinets, I was gonna check with Qwerty but thanks for the referral of Garage Concepts.  I'll give them a call to get a quote on both.
