Chinese scholar and Nobel Prize winner Liu Xiaobo died this week of cancer after the Communist Party refused his request for medical treatment abroad. The Communist Party imprisoned Liu for publishing a letter signed by 300 other mainland Chinese people, asking for the rule of law and democracy in China.
Liu is a reminder that there are many people in mainland China who yearn for freedom to speak, worship, and choose their leaders and, as the leader of the free world, we should always keep these people in mind when we are making business and other deals with the Communists.
Here is a remembrance of Liu by Wu'er Kaixi, the student leader of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protest, and currently a legislator in Taiwan:https://international.thenewslens.com/article/73518
