I've had an LG front load washer/dryer for about 10 years. Still works great. One of my friends purchased a front load a year or two ago and said the newer designs fix some of the problems of the old ones.
The biggest problem with my front load washer is mold will accumulate in and around the gasket that helps seal the door. It never really dries there if the door is kept closed. It will start to smell gross and it will make the clothes smell gross. The solution that works for me is
1) wipe the gasket and door with a towel when the machine won't be used for a while (i.e. no need if you're doing back to back loads, except on the last one). Ideally, peel back the gasket a bit at the bottom to soak up some of that water with the towel.
2) leave the door wide open when not in use
3) I've never seen mold in the soap dispenser, but I leave that door open anyway. Couldn't hurt
4) Periodically run an empty cycle with maximum hot water and bleach (or cleaning tabs). After that, drain all the water out of the tub via the drain tube and clean the round filter. Wouldn't hurt to run one more beach cycle, but probably okay with only one. Dry the gasket and door thoroughly with a towel, leave everything open. REMEMBER TO CLOSE THE DRAIN TUBE AND REINSERT THE FILTER BEFORE USING THE MACHINE AGAIN. FAILING TO DO SO WILL POUR ENDLESS AMOUNTS OF WATER AT A HIGH RATE OUT OF THE MACHINE.
Again, this is my 10 year old machine. There are probably some improvements to address these issues by now.
Good luck with your new LG!
PS There's a part of me that wants one of the old school simple ratchet style washer/dryer combos. Far less to go wrong. I just need the washer to pour some soap & water in, agitate, and rinse. Just need the dryer to get warm and toss clothes around. I don't need those machines to have wireless connectivity, a bunch of buttons and an LED display, a steam cycle, or sensor dry. But in the meantime, I hope to get at least another 10 years out of my LG front load combo
