The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Maclaren have announced a voluntary recall of more than 1 million of its umbrella strollers sold in the United States, after 12 reports of fingertip amputations when a child put a finger in a hinge.

In a press release, the company said: "Safety is our first priority and through this voluntary effort we urge consumers to contact us immediately to obtain the kit which consists of hinge covers designed specifically to fit all Maclaren strollers."

The affected models were sold from 1999 through November 2009 and include Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller.

If you own one of these models, contact the company for a free repair kit by calling (877) 688-2326 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or by going to www.maclaren.us/recall.
