is one of the buttons at the top of the form where you type your post. It stands for anchor, and it tells the forum software that you mean for your text to be a clickable link. When you click , a little window opens up that lets you paste your URL and then what you want the linked text to be.

I think it is important that we all remind everyone of the sticky topic found at the top of the Irvine RE category called Nude Tech Support 2.0. In there you can find step by step instructions on what all those crazy buttons mean, and how to properly post a link.
