I think this presentation of the layout of the White House is outstanding:

If you ever get the opportunity to tour the White House, jump on it. From what I hear, it's been very difficult to get in since 9/11. When I lived in D.C., my boss worked there one week out of the month and so I toured it a few times, hung out in the Press Briefing Room, and was able to shoot a mock news package where the press did their outdoor stand-ups at that time. Sometimes I miss having a press pass :(.

I am somewhat of a White House geek. So this is probably more than you want to know. . .

The White House Museum site has lots of historical information, including photos from inside the White House over the years.

Not sure if President Obama followed tradition, but the president's bedroom has recently been what is labeled as the Master Bedroom of the residence. (This is on what is called the Third floor in the link IR posted, but the Second Floor at the link I posted). The White House underwent a major remodel during Truman's administration, before that this room was usually a living room.

Here's some photos from the master bedroom over the years. They all are taken from about the same place in the room.

Ronald Reagan 1981.
