Increased Homeowners Fees Due to Delinquency

Our homeowners association fees just went up $20 a month (this after a $10 a month increase a couple months ago). The reason given was an increased amount of delinquencies in our neighborhood. Can they do this? Do we have a right to see who is delinquent? If all our neighbors are living here enjoying the benefits that we are all bearing the increased costs of due to their not paying the bills it kind of ticks me off.

I'm probably just venting.

Oh I would never be thankful to get a $30 monthly increase because OTHER people didn't follow the rules. I followed all the rules, don't have fancy cars, maxed-out HELOCs, boats, cruise vacations, diamonds, etc. Just a nice house in Irvine and an older (paid for) car. I have 17 years left on the ORIGINAL mortgage and have no HELOC, credit card bills, or other debt of any kind.

An extra $400 a year so my Mercedes-driving neighbors can enjoy the same quality of living that I do when they don't pay the same that I do? No, I'm not thankful at all.

And boy would I like to know who they are.
 
This is a sign of the times and from everything I know, they could raise it $500 if they wanted to and had the Association votes to do it. Just another reason I would never buy a home with a HOA. This is happening all over the country.

I understand your point but venture over to a few places in West Irvine that don't have HOAs. Boats and motorhomes in the driveways, trailers with motorcycles on the every inch of curb space, blue, yellow, purple and green mailboxes, lawnmowers left in the front driveways, trash cans out all week, no parking anywhere. There's something to be said for no rules but it ain't in Irvine! No HOAs are great for rural areas and places with a lot of SPACE. When you're all crammed in like in the later developments of Irvine you've got to have the damn HOAs unfortunately.
 
My parent live in a bright mint house with a green trim. All the neighbors are brown or cream colored. My parents are the reason why you need an HOA. If your unhappy then run for the board.

Certainly a lot better than the Gestapo HOA's of Irvine where you can not even park on the street or driveway. I'll take the kaleidescope of color versus the socialist ass faced meddling of a totalitarian HOA any day of the week. Irivine is not worth the hassle or the cost....

This sucks.. do you know how many units in your neighborhood are delinquent on their HOA dues?

I wish I did. I'm thinking about attending the next HOA meeting and asking for details. I'm not certain how much right-to-privacy is involved, however. By the way, this $30 increase represents a 30% increase!

We have personally lived through a nightmare of a neighbor that parked three cars, a trailer, two ATVs and all of their bikes on our shared driveway. Their garage and driveway were completely left open so that they could have a pool table and set up a table and chairs in the driveway. Wonderful. It took us 5 minutes to back up out of our driveway and when people visited them they would DOUBLE PARK requiring us to honk our horns to enter or leave our garage.

Before this neighbor we all (four houses) managed to share the driveway with absolutely no problems whatsoever for five years. No HOAs sound great if everybody is considerate and tries to help each other but unfortunately it all can be ruined by one person that thinks the world revolves around them.

Enter the Gestapo, a couple of written warnings, a couple of towing signs, one tow, and BINGO, no more problems. Thank you Gestapo! We love you!
 
Go here and do a search of your HOA name. If that doesn't work, then try their property management name. If they are seriously delinquent the HOA will have filed a NOD, and a NTS if they are true deadbeats. You will only be able to get their name, but it is a start to finding who the deadbeats are.

Now, you better not pull an Ipo on us, and go all 909 on your neighbors. I don't want to see a thread started here with the title "Man goes crazy on deadbeat neighbors for HOA rate increase". Irvine has already exceeded is crime level for the year, it really doesn't need any more.

I hope that you tried talking with the offending neighbors first? And they rebuffed your request to be more community spirited? If so, I find that the air somehow escapes rather quickly from three cars, a trailer, two ATVs and all of their bikes if they were parked on my driveway. Must be something karmic that happens in the night.

You don't need an HOA to remedy problems like this.

All that stuff was likely purchased with HELOC money. They are likely one of those delinquent on their HOA.

How about THREE MONTHS of trying to talk and be neighborly. We always got the "Ohhh yeah yeah...this is temporary...we'll have em all in the garage this week" and then the pool table comes in...after three months we went to the association.....then it progressed to "Fine us! We have all the money in the world and can pay fines DAILY!"

Two foreclosures later, another NOD on the house they're in now, delinquent HOA payments and I would say Karma is a Bitch!

The only person I ever cursed (as in put a curse on) in my life and man did it come out okay.....

Three cars, a trailer, a couple of ATVs, a pool table, and probably a year or more of free 'rent' on somebody else's dime. You sure that's karma?
