I only recognized four families that came trick or treating, and my kid is off to Homer's place to steal donut butter.
But in my neighborhood, it's cuteness overload! Never seen so many super heroes and Princesses at one place :-)

One even said "See, I can be nice".
How is your neighborhood doing?
I emptied out two bags of Costco candies, on the third, and looks like I will run out soon.. I hate turning off the lights because there is no more candy :(
 
We did the mall thing again... but then the kids wanted to do the neighborhood thing (they were feeling brave) and the sick one wore a jacket over the costume.

Lots of kids out and about.
 
We did the mall thing in the past and didn't really enjoy it.. Seems kinda weird.. mostly asian families in the mall.  We went around our new neighborhood this year, met some neighbors but our little one got tired after two cul-de-sacs and she was pooped..  She got spooked by a house that was really done up with fog machine and machete guy in the door..
 
Had to work late tonight so no trick or treating or passing out candies this year.  My wife went to my moms and she said there were not that many trick or treaters in the ridge.

Reminds me of my first year handing out candy when I moved from an apartment into our first house.  Unintentionally I overdid it on the scare factor, and it was too much for a lot of the smaller kids.  One little boy in particular just began balling his eyes out as soon as I opened the door.  He just stood their crying, completely resigned to his certainty of impending bad things...until I started dumping candies into his bag.  He sucked up his tears, sobbed a little "okay", and walked back to his parents waiting on the sidewalk, where he got a quick hug before moving on to my neighbor.  What puzzled me is that not a single kid, despite encountering perhaps the most terrible thing they had ever seen, tried to leave my porch until after they got their candy.  Seems the instinct for treats is stronger than the instinct for self preservation.

Our current house is off the beaten path, so we only get a smattering of trick-or-treaters.  Makes for a very unsatisfying time as the candy-giver-outer.  The kids don't come often enough to sit by the door waiting, so when they do show up, half the time they're already gone by the time we get to the door.  "COME BAAACK!  WE HAVE CAAAAAANDY!!!"  Not worth the extra steps, apparently.  We started with a single Costco bag and have most of it left.  Now it'll be just like last year, and we'll be nibbling on this crap until maybe July.

A lot of empty and dark houses in the neighborhood actually..Around 6pm, I thought no one is doing it. Some parents just took their kids to the mall, and left a dark house without any candy :( But those who kept the doors more than made up for their absence- it was a good know your neighbor-meet your neighbor event. Also, around 7pm, there were so many kids, I didn't even wonder where they came from! I was able to recognize 6-7 families in all.

I heard that one guy went all out with the decor. He had the fog, open house and all that. The loot was all the same- you wouldn't believe, but everyone seems to have to bought the same Costco bag :) Other than two houses where they gave out goody bags, it's all the same..

What's everyone doing with the candy? I will send it off to Operation Gratitude via Lisa and Jeff Anderson.
Homer- they skipped your house! I don't think your side participated.. the opposite side did though.
Daedalus- reminds me of last week's episode of Modern Family :)
IHO- same with my sick one- wore a sweater that matched the costume, done and out! I hope to go to work today.. let's see.


 
Love Halloween so I dressed up as "Grunkle Stan" from the Disney Channel's show "Gravity Falls". Watch an episode and you'll see why.

After about 50 kids one of them finally got who the costume was and was rewarded with a King Sized candy bar. ("fun size"? my arse. Even standard sized candy has shrunk.). The parents weren't so happy when I gave the kid her brick shaped reward, but who can argue with giant sized candy? That's the fun part of Halloween isn't it? Someone up the street from us was giving out full sized Pixie Sticks which rocked as usual.

This year we didn't get our usual 300+ kids as the neighborhood demographic ages. Last year was the final one for about 15 kids on our street alone. We had roughly 200 go through the block which is still a pretty solid turn out, but next year it's 150, then 100 unfortunately.

No destroyed pumpkins in the road this morning which surprised me.
