For any of you local parents who haven't yet gone - you've got to check out the splash pad at Pioneer Road Park in Tustin Ranch this summer.
I've been to that park many times but had never seen the splash pad in action until yesterday. (It is dormant outside of the summer months.) Our first stop was to the store to pick out the gnarliest water guns that two little boys could have. With swim suits on and pistols in tow, we headed to our destination. I was expecting something wimpy like the water jets at Fashion Island or maybe something like they have at the Irvine Spectrum if we were lucky. Woah, mama! It was so much more. There were high-pressured jets spouting up many feet, one set made to look like a fountain, a few water-cannons that can be controlled by the children, some horizontal water feature shooting out from the wall, and more. The water rotates from one feature to another. It was funny watching the children scramble to the next station in anticipation of water, as they came to know the rotation by heart. The place had a good crowd. I expected my kids to get a light mist and instead they got completely drenched. It was great. They hardly touched the water guns... who needs 'em! Be careful if you decide to sit at one of the two nearby tables. I couldn't understand why they were empty so I took a spot. After being hit with a water cannon, I quickly figured it out.
Two hours later, we were zonked and ready to go home. We all can't wait to go back! I am excited that I have one less reason to battle parking for a trip to the Spectrum when this is so much more fun and less hassle.
The posted hours of operation are:
Mon-Fri 11 - 3
Sat & Sun 10-4
... however... we were there until after 4:30 on a weekday and there was no sign of the fun coming to an end.
