China?s 1 Percent Flock to Canada

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Yeah... should have said I'm moving north if Trump is elected too (but I doubt that will happen, America can be a circus but not a real circus).

I used to work in the MRO industry and have worked in 5 Canadian provinces -- those that border the US except Quebec (my French wasn't good enough).  When petrol prices are high, jobs in the oil sands are plenty, including jobs for Americans that pay big bucks.  When petrol prices are low, they wind down operations and jobs become scarce.

If you enter Canada via Vancouver and say you're there to work, expect the immigration officer to give you an attitude about why they can't find a Canadian to do the job.  But if you enter via some small airport in central provinces, the customs official is all smiles (when petrol prices are high) and ask "are you sure you don't need to stay longer?  Do you need help in applying for work permit?"

So if you're looking to move to Canada, consider Manitoba and Alberta instead of BC and Ontario.  I accidentally drove my rental car on to a frozen lake in Ontario once, ended up meeting some nice folks who yelled at me and went ice fishing after.  If you work in heavy industry (mining, energy) be aware that remote camp jobs are like prison and, if you're not aware of your surroundings, accidents can be fatal in a bad way.
