I'm incredibly sad. They may relocate somewhere else in south county but with this economy, who knows if they will. The prepared food counter sucked. But there were certain cheeses, meats, and even fruits that aren't sold anywhere in Orange County.

I can't make up my mind.

From what I've read... they do plan on opening up another South OC location that's not as "unsavory" as Kaleidoscope... but you think they would have done that first before closing.

Kaleidoscope was history for me when El Torito Grill left and Riptide doubled the happy hour prices.

Nothing but a teen hang out. One of the neighbor kids got "busted" here hanging with the wrong crowd. The place NOT to let your teenager hang FYI.

Now Bristol Farms makes its exit. Always enjoyed spending too much money in that store.

Its expensive but much better quality than Gelson`s. Especially the meat and seafood

selections. Adios to the stinky Kaleidoscope.

What kind of cheeses, meats, and fruits are you talking about? It's hard to believe you can't find what you're looking for anywhere else in the county. What about the Bristol Farms in Newport next to the library?

I liked the idea that we had a wide range of grocery stores. From the inexpensive Mexican supermarkets to the upscale Bristol Farms. Regardless of their failings, I'm sad to see them go.

That location DID suck though.

On another sad note, I went to the little Japanese place across the street from Marukai in Costa Mesa... the one next to the GameStop. They changed owners and no longer sell ramen. I will miss the ramen there. Not as good as Shinsengumi, but the soup base was decent and the price was good.

I'm off to Taiwan for a month... everyone behave while I'm away. ;p

I shall return with many food photos to make Vic go "arrgh!".
