Are there any good Jewish Deli's in OC

My favorite Benjies in Santa Ana:

Katella Deli is okay in Los Alimitos (they have thier own bakery):

The deli inside the Commerce Casino is oddly good. It might be the best foodservice in the whole casino, outside of the supperclub.

I will second Benjie`s on Tustin off the 55. We used to go there for morning meetings 20 years ago. The place hasn`t changed at all. The same waitresses. Timeless.

My favorite. French Dip Pastrami Sandwich.

MMMMM, that sounds yummy...is it served on rye bread with brown spicy mustard???

They offer you three mustards - Frenchs (yellow), spicy deli, and Grey Poupon.

My fav. is the #3 triple decker which is corned beef, pastrami, and salami. The best seller is the #5 - corned beef, pastrami, and swiss. I like that one too.

My husband also loves the pastrami at Benji's, I like their very simple chicken soup with matzo balls.

The # 3 sounds like a heart stopper but very tempting. I'll have to drop by this place next week.

I know a Polish deli up in Santa Monica (my dad goes there to get bread and deli meats for the holidays) that sells the best rye bread you'll ever eat.

They are both heart stoppers. It's double pastrami, and single corned beef!

Plan on eating half of it, and boxing the rest for later.

Thanks for the tip! Maybe I'll split a sandwich with a co-worker.

My fav. deli anywhere is "The Nosh" on Little Santa Monica in Beverly Hills.

Prepare for sticker shock. Lunch for one in 2001 was over $12. I assume it must be nearly $20 now. Nothing in BH is cheap.

I'd agree that Benji's is the closest thing to authentic in the OC. The best deli in all of Southern California is Art's in Studio City..."Where Every Sandwich is a Work of Art." Nate & Al's in BH, Langer's in downtown LA and Junior's in West LA are runners-up. Stay away from the Jerry's Deli chain, including the one here in Costa Mesa. Surprisingly, Tommie's Pastrami in Irvine, next door to Fukada, makes a very good sandwich.

Agreed, Tommie's is more than decent.

I've eaten at Nate and Als a couple of dozen times, and I think the food is tons better at The Nosh FWIW. Pricing is about the same.

When in Beverly Hills, the Brighton Coffee Shop is always a good choice.......

I'm not sure if Katella Deli is still kosher certified, you might want to verify first.

There's a small Jewish market in Old Town Tustin. It's in the same parking lot as the Japanese Bakery.

Go here:

http://elmomonster.blogspot.com/2008/02/japonaise-bakery-cafe-tustin.html

Then drive to the far corner in the parking lot. Look for the Philippine restaurant, the Jewish market is to the left, 2 or 3 doors down. I'm not sure how much "Deli" stuff they sell, but do recall they have a meat section.

We tried Benji's in Santa Ana today for lunch, great food and low prices. Brisket was very good. They have a happy hour from 3pm to 7pm in the Bamboo Lodge part of the deli, $4 for 1/2 sandwich plus macaroni salad.

I don't think it is...I might be wrong, but I think it's billed as "kosher-style" rather than actually kosher. They do have a nice bakery with pretty good black & white cookies, if anyone's into that.

Agree on Benjie's! Jerry's across from South Coast Plaza has actually gotten a lot better in the last few years - better service and food. Great matzo-ball soup. A bit expensive (although dirt cheap compared to all the places around it), but huge selection and open really late (unlike Benjie's). It's our go-to place after concerts at OCPAC. Only thing that sucks is parking.
