Anyone Ever used Hire a Helper?

We are moving (yay!) in about 2 weeks from our IAC apt. to a condo in Oak Park - about a mile from each other. We are packing our own stuff and taking our valuables over on our own. We wanted to rent a uhaul and then just hire labor to move the furniture, etc. I found this site called Hire A Helper and was wondering if anyone here had used them before?

You can always swing by a Home Depot to get a day laborer or two. That's what I did when I moved from my condo to an IAC apartment.

You can always swing by a Home Depot to get a day laborer or two. That's what I did when I moved from my condo to an IAC apartment.

Are they just hanging around outside the store?

Personally, I'd like them to be licensed and insured in case they break anything or punch a hole in the wall.

Yeah, there's usually a lot of them in the mornings. I would get the stronger looking ones who speak some English. I think I got 2 guys and paid them like $50 each for about 6 hours of work plus lunch and drinks.

There was 4 of us there working, including my dad and I so we obviously were on top of things so there was no need to pay extra for professionals.

HA HA HA

Clearly, your experience with "professional" movers is limited. They all break/punch/lose stuff/etc.

and their "insurance" is sending some guy out to try to fix broken stuff. and paying you some hugely depreciated amount for lost stuff. (and for me at least, this was a corporate move where they were extra special concerned about the account, so on best behavior)

Movers are the biggest scam in the US (just look at the BBB website).

Personally, I'm much happier/more trusting of the guys at HD for my moves.
