Anyone else stuck in that massive gridlock at the District today?

It is a mess there. We went to Target in the evening during dinner to avoid the masses. There really is no hassle-free, direct route to get to that store from Harvard.

On the plus side, there were plenty of price reductions. Kohl's over on Jeffrey really has some deep discounts that might appeal to target shoppers for home and personal items.
 
spent all day at south coast yesterday. crowded but not WTF-I-CANT-STAND-THIS crowded, which it usually is this time of year. lots of people but people were carrying at most a bag or two. most of the dept stores and higher volume clothing stores like gap/br had small lines just a few customers deep. for the last wkend before Christmas that is awful sign for retailers. not surprising that people have moved what little shopping they're doing over from the mall to places like target and costco.
 
I was there on Saturday.

It got really busy after lunch and into the evening.

Nordstrom’s was very over crowded to the point of being unbearable.

Macy’s mens was busy but manageable.

Noticed there was a line at Vie De France all day long and the Coffer Bean had a line wrapped outside the door.

The high end stores were fairly quiet though.

Cartier, Harry Winston, Gucci, Brooks Brothers did not seem to be getting much action.
 
I was there yesterday around 4:00 and parked near Best Buy. I was surprised that there were tons of open parking spaces. The secret to getting out is to go around the back of the stores past Chick-fil-A.
 
The District is the worst for traffic.

It's bad at lunchtime during the week so I can imagine it's horrendous right now.

Even getting gas at the Costco is a nightmare.
 
I don't think there is one shopping center that is well planned in CA. The District is an atrociously laid-out sprawl with too much parking and too little roadway. The entrance into the plaza from Barranca is a nightmare. The same goes for the new asian themed plaza on Jamboree and Alton. What retard designed that place? NO entrance/exit on Jamboree? WTF? There is only ONE entrance to the plaza, and it is at a light one block down on Alton.

I also hate how you can never make a left turn when you want to here in CA, because there is always a median. So you have to turn right. Oh but wait; guess what? the first light you come to doesn't allow U-turns!!
 
I did Saturday midday shopping at Tustin Market Place (oops now just the Market Place), while it was crowded it was easy to get around the traffic. I just used the side entrances and exits instead of the main ones.

Got shopping done at Home Depot, Babies R Us, Sports Authority, Barnes & Noble, Target and ate lunch at Rubios in all under 2 hours :)

What about the backdoor entrance into the district (warner to tustin ranch road)? was that bad too?

However, I will admit I tend to prefer to park further away and walk just cause I having to back out in congestion.

Ha! We may have parked next to each other. I had to make a Whole Foods run yesterday afternoon and was a little worried when I saw the traffic at the entrance, but I found a parking space just a couple deep near Best Buy. There were many open spaces in that area.

heh i'm not going to open a can of worms... let's see what ten says about it.

i did notice nordstroms was the only place with unbearable crowds. but at the same time there was still a glut of inventory. bargain racks and tables piled high, but still very short lines at the registers.

we also had bfast at vie de france. that place is actually quite a bargain. there's always a line so i wouldnt say they were any busier than usual. ditto at the coffee shops. i guess people still want to go to the mall, have a cheap meal or coffee so they can still feel nouveau rich even if they can't afford to actually shop.
 
We love to rag on the District on this forum! Back exit around Chick Filet is a good idea, that was the least crowded way out. Costco gas is a mess, almost not worth the $3 savings.

The easiest way into Diamond Jamboree plaza is the "back entrance" on McGaw, it takes you right up to the parking structure from the back. Found this entry by accident as I was driving south on Jamboree looking (unsuccessfully) for an entrance to the Plaza and turned right on McGaw.

By the way, the access and parking at Diamond Jamboree plaza in Irvine is far superior to the DJ plaza's sister shopping center, Diamond Plaza in Rowland Heights (same owner). Getting in and out of Diamond Plaza in RH is a true nightmare.

Which way were you driving on Jamboree when you turned right? Towards Newport beach?

I always go Harvard to Warner, (Towards Tustin from NB), left on Warner, drive to the T-Junction then you can only go right, Make a U-Turn at the first Lights then turn into the first driveway behind Target, then go right..it's really easy to get in and out...

I finally checked this place out last month and was pretty PO'ed myself when I saw there wasn't a direct entrance on Jamboree. I did find that "back entrance", but again, my first thought was, WTF? Such a hassle to get there that it is almost like they want people to give up finding an entrance.
