    Central Park West thoughts?

I've read all about the IBC.  At this point, coming to fruition is about as likely as the subway going from Downtown LA to Santa Monica.  Is it going to happen eventually? Maybe. Anytime soon (as in, within 15 years)? Not a chance.

    Central Park West thoughts?

I'm going to have to agree with IndieDev and USCTrojanCPA.  See my post above for why.  For a community like Irvine, this project doesn't make very much sense because for the same price you can get a much more convenient location (in terms of proximity to shops, grocery stores, etc.), further...

how much more would you pay for a detached vs attached...

Assuming everything else is equal - I'd pay around $50K extra to not have to share walls, but for Irvine and the suburbs in general it would only be a consideration up to the $550K mark.  Any more than that and sharing a wall is just absurd; it would be an instant pass to share walls on...

    Central Park West thoughts?

I checked out CPW a few months back because I was also intrigued with the "urban living" they were pushing: 1) Who are we kidding.  This is OC, this is Irvine.  There is no such thing as "urban".  The closest we can get to that is somewhere like where the OP mentioned s/he lived at the Village...

Why can't PCs learn from Apple?

Ba-zing! But in all seriousness, Apple has marketed themselves successfully enough that they are are luxury item, that most importantly, people will pay for.  The same reason Mercedes and Lexus can charge $100+ for an oil change and Louis can sell shoes for $500.

Why can't PCs learn from Apple?

First, it was because Apple make a slicker, sexier product that was easier to use (iPod, iPhone).  Now, it's because Apple has become cool and their marketing is the best in the world. Apple wasn't the first to make a digital music player, nor a smartphone, nor a netbook... but every time they...

    LA Fitness

I doubt you'll get much better of a deal than $7/month (or $14 total for you) anywhere.  Costco has a package for 24HF where you pay $450 for 3 years up front, which I consider a pretty good deal and even that comes out to $12.50/month for a single person.  I can't really comment on LAF vs. 24HF...

    Gated communities in Irvine

Even if someone mans the gates, I personally think it's more for show and bragging rights ("I live in a gated community"... *points nose up*).  My folks live in a double gated community in San Diego and it's far more of a nuisance than any security it provides. Though it will keep out the...

Nearly side swiped by Darth Vader...

Haha, I've always called it the "welding mask" too.  My friend (I think it's from his mom's saying) calls it the "supervisor".

    Diversity in Irvine

Well, truth is (even if no one likes to admit it), Irvine is a very expensive place to live, and statistically - as far as ethnic groups go - whites and Asians are the most well off and would be most likely to be able to comfortably live in Irvine.  As far as black people that I've seen in...

Delta to offer nonstop flights from John Wayne to JFK

I generally try to fly out of SNA when possible, even if it costs an extra $40-60 round trip.  The difference is made up in proximity, not having to pay a parking fee or booking a ride, and last but not least, NOT being LAX (which is priceless to not have to go through that hellhole, though Long...

Delta to offer nonstop flights from John Wayne to JFK

Delta? *shudder* I've had two experiences with them and they were both nothing short of awful.  Without going into too much detail, this includes sitting on the ground for 90 minutes, with no A/C on a hot, humid NY summer day, before taking off. Hopefully these were two isolated incidents, and...

    Places where parking is good?

Well IMHO, if anytime between 5pm and 8am parking is not easy to find, then it's not "good".  One of my peeves is having to look for a parking spot and circling just because you went out to dinner or a movie. And by good, I don't necessarily mean rows and rows of parking (which Rancho Maderas...

What city would you live in other than Irvine?

I was half-joking, mostly.  Most Irvineites (and those interested in living in a city like Irvine) don't exactly have a great impression Santa Ana (myself included).

What city would you live in other than Irvine?

Wow... what a strange turn this thread took. But back on subject... Santa Ana... haha, why was that included? ;)

Irvine OKs 6,000 homes in city's urban core

Time will tell, but I agree with Blueberry.  The reason people have come to love / hate Irvine is because it is a meticulously planned, clean, safe, boring, epitome of a suburban city.

Irvine OKs 6,000 homes in city's urban core

The report makes lots of good points, but do people who are attracted to OC / Irvine want something like that?  I feel like most people here are typical suburbanites - they want their own car, garage, and yard (assuming they can afford it) in a nice, clean, safe neighborhood.  And as long as the...

Irvine OKs 6,000 homes in city's urban core

I've read through that already, but I'm still not sure they can make it work and/or be attractive to most Irvine/OC dwellers, which is absolutely necessary for anything urban to work.  Time will tell, I could be wrong.

Irvine OKs 6,000 homes in city's urban core

http://www.ocregister.com/news/irvine-257657-city-business.html Call me skeptical, but I just don't see the "urban" thing working in Irvine.  The roads are too wide, blocks are too far apart, and most importantly, it's just not what those looking to live in Irvine want.
